Hoxie, Hillcrest claim

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs and Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles won titles at the First National Bank Mustang Classic held last week at Hoxie.
The Lady Mustangs defeated Poplar Bluff 61-37, while Hillcrest topped Midland 71-45 in Saturday's finals.
The girls title game was tied 15-15 at the end of the first quarter before Hoxie pulled away to a 27-19 halftime advantage. The Lady Mustangs stretched the lead to 44-26 after three quarters and outscored the Lady Mules 17-11 in the final period.
Sydney Gillham led Hoxie with 18 points. Kaitlin Henson finished with 17 points, and Tessa Glenn added 12.
In the boys final, Hillcrest overcame a slow start and went on to a convincing victory over Midland.
Midland led 16-11 after one period of play, but the Screamin' Eagles rallied in the second period and led 33-31 at the end of the first half. Hillcrest continued to pull away in the second half, leading 53-38 after three quarters and holding off the Mustangs in the final period.
Colton Rose led the Screamin' Eagles with 25 points. Caleb James scored 16 points, and Tyson Durham had 15.
The Hoxie boys defeated Cedar Ridge 52-35 in a boys consolation game on Saturday.
The Mustangs led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, 29-18 at halftime and 39-29 after three periods.
Colton Vassar had 21 points, and Tracer Keeling scored 19 for Hoxie.
Hillcrest's Lady Screamin' Eagles defeated McCrory 65-52 in a girls consolation game.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles took a 14-7 lead in the first quarter, and continued to pull away, holding leads of 33-19 at halftime and 52-30 after three quarters.
Paige Penn scored 19 points, and Mickayla Smith added 11 for Hillcrest. Abby Orrick and Morgan each scored 10 points. Orrick also contributed five steals.
The Hoxie girls advanced to the finals by routing Gosnell 71-33 in the semifinals on Friday.
The Lady Mustangs led 17-11 after one quarter before outscoring Gosnell 23-4 in the second period to stretch the lead to 40-15 at the intermission. Hoxie led 58-25 entering the fourth quarter.
Gillham scored 19 points to lead Hoxie. Henson had 17 points, and Cassidy Clayton added 11.
Hillcrest defeated Timbo 62-57 in boys semifinal action on Friday.
Hillcrest led 17-14 at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers rallied to take a 33-31 lead at halftime. Timbo continued to lead 42-40 heading into fourth quarter, but Hillcrest surged back to outscore the Tigers 22-15 in the final period to earn a spot in Saturday's championship game.
For Hillcrest, James had 16 points, while Rose added 15. Nick Powell chipped in 12 points.
Hoxie edged Maynard 52-51 in a boys consolation game on Friday.
Chance Moore led the Mustangs with 21 points, while Braden Brand and Keeling each chipped in 11 points.
Hillcrest defeated Midland 65-57 in a girls consolation matchup.
Smith led the Lady Eagles with 19 points and three steals. Morgan had 12 points and six rebounds. Penn had 12 points, and Chastity Davis added nine.

In boys play, Hillcrest defeated Newport 59-46, while Midland defeated Hoxie 65-55.
For Hillcrest, Rose and Durham had 16 points apiece. Rose also had four steals. James finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
In the girls bracket, Hoxie defeated Timbo 73-33, and Maynard defeated Hillcrest 60-39. Smith had 11 points, and Morgan had eight points for Hillcrest.
