Lady Cats defeat Piggott

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats earned their first basketball victory of the season by defeating Piggott 55-37 Friday night at Sharum Gymnasium.

The Lady Cats pounced on the visitors early, taking a 16-3 lead in the first quarter and never let up. Walnut Ridge led 29-11 at halftime and 43-26 after three quarters.

Megan Jared led the Lady Bobcats in scoring, with 18 points. Kelly Lee recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Briley Henson finished with eight points and 12 boards.

Walnut Ridge's junior high girls were also victorious, defeating the Lady Mohawks 32-20.


Walnut Ridge hosted Highland on Dec. 4 and fell to the Lady Rebels 62-21.

Highland led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter, 34-11 at halftime and 48-15 after three quarters.

Jared and Henson each scored six points for Walnut Ridge. Kelly Lee had five points, and Taylor McGinty added four points. Henson led the Lady Cats with six rebounds, while Jared and Jacey Jones each grabbed five rebounds.

Highland won the junior girls game 50-18.

Bailey Augustine led Walnut Ridge with nine points and six rebounds. Livvie Howard scored four points. Anna Saffell and Holly Berry each scored two points, and Hannah Harper added one point.

Highland won the seventh-grade game 10-7.

Lady Cats at Highland

The Lady Bobcats traveled to Highland on Nov. 20 and dropped a 61-18 decision to the Lady Rebels in senior high action.

Highland led 27-13 at halftime and broke the game open by outscoring the Lady Bobcats 25-0 in the third quarter.

Jared led the Lady Cats with seven points, and Jessica Stevens had five points. Kelly Lee finished with four points and six steals, and Henson added two points.

Highland's junior high team defeated Walnut Ridge 46-15.

Saffell, Alex Jones and Harper each scored three points for Walnut Ridge. Alexis Dalton, Howard and Chloe Davis had two points apiece.
