Hillcrest ladies beat Rector

The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles defeated Rector 41-25 in senior girls basketball Thursday at Rector.

Hillcrest jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the first quarter and led 19-9 at halftime and 34-16 after three quarters.

Mickayla Smith had 19 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Lady Eagles, while Mollie Morgan finished with eight points and four steals.

The victory improved the Lady Screamin' Eagles record to 3-7 on the season.

Hillcrest's junior girls defeated Rector 37-27.

The junior Lady Eagles led 13-6 after one quarter, but Rector fought back to tie the game 18-18 at the intermission. Hillcrest nudged into a 25-21 lead entering the third period and continued to stretch the lead in the final quarter.

For Hillcrest, Kylie Baxter had 14 points, four steals and three assists. Molly Emison tallied 12 points, six rebounds and four steals.


Hillcrest's senior boys dropped a 1A-2 North contest to the Norfork Panthers 68-55 on Nov. 10 at Norfork.

The Panthers led 23-20 after one quarter, but Hillcrest rallied in the second period to force a 34-34 tie at halftime. Norfork reclaimed the lead at 47-40 at the end of the third quarter and held off Hillcrest in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Tyson Durham, Trevor Nunnally and Caleb James each scored 12 points for Hillcrest. Nunnally also had eight rebounds, and James contributed four steals.

Norfork won the senior girls game 85-41. Smith led Hillcrest with 12 points, and Chastity Davis added seven.

The Hillcrest junior girls won a thriller when Emison made two free throws with three seconds remaining to give the junior Lady Eagles a 31-29 victory.

Emison finished with 11 points and had eight steals. Emma Howard finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Marissa Murphy and Baxter each had six points, while Baxter also contributed three steals.
