Lady Mustangs are
state runners-up

Lady Mustang Kelsey Moody sets the ball during the championship game of the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament, which was held in Hot Springs. Hoxie ended as runners-up, falling to Paris in three sets.

After advancing through the first four rounds of the 3A State Volleyball Tournament on their home court, the Hoxie Lady Mustangs faced the two-time defending champion Paris Lady Eagles in the championship match on Saturday in Hot Springs.

Paris won a 27-25 barnburner in the first set, then went on to take the next two sets 25-11, 25-13 to capture their third consecutive state title.

For Hoxie, Sydney Gillham had six digs, six kills, three blocks and was 7/7 serving. Kelsey Moody had five assists, eight digs, a kill and was 10/10 serving. Kayla Roberts had five digs, two kills, three blocks and was 12/13 serving.

Christin Barker had 14 digs and was 8/8 from the service line. Kaitlin Henson had a dig, three kills and two blocks. Mackenzie Orrick had four digs and was 10/10 serving, with two aces. Emily Davis had six assists, six digs, two kills, two blocks and was 5/5 serving, and Ellie Britt had a dig and a block.

The Lady Mustangs ended the season with a 25-4 overall record.

First round

Mustang Gymnasium was the site of the state tournament through the semifinal round. The Lady Mustangs took full advantage of their home court, winning four matches without dropping a set.

Hoxie defeated Mansfield in the first round on Oct. 23, 25-15, 25-16, 25-9.

Moody finished with 14 assists, nine digs, six kills and was 12/13 serving, with an ace. Gillham had eight digs, 10 kills, a block and was 9/9 serving. Barker had 10 digs and was 6/6 serving, while Roberts added five kills. Henson had nine kills and a block. Davis had 19 assists, two digs, three kills and was 15/16 serving, with an ace. Britt contributed an assist, two digs, seven kills and a block, and Orrick had six digs and was 16/16 serving.

Second round

Yellville-Summit was the Lady Mustangs' second-round opponent on Oct. 24. Hoxie swept the Lady Panthers 25-9, 25-12, 25-6.

Moody had 18 assists, seven digs, four kills and was 19/19 serving, with five aces. Davis added 10 assists, a dig, six kills, three blocks and was 13/13 serving. Gillham finished with an assist, eight digs, six kills and was 11/11 serving, with an ace.

Roberts had two digs, five kills, a block and was 14/14 serving. Barker had 10 digs and was 8/8 serving, with an ace. Henson had a dig, seven kills and a block. Britt had two digs, seven kills and a block, and Orrick had a dig and was 7/7 serving.

Quarterfinals

Hoxie faced Conway St. Joseph in the quarterfinals on Oct. 25 and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 25-9, 25-14, 25-17.

Davis had 17 assists, six digs, three kills and was 6/6 serving, while Britt added five kills and three blocks. Moody recorded 15 assists, seven digs, four kills and was 22/22 serving, with two aces. Gillham had eight digs, 12 kills, two blocks and was 14/14 serving. Orrick had three digs and was 13/13 serving, and Henson contributed six kills. Barker had 13 digs and was 12/12 serving, and Roberts had eight kills, seven blocks and was 9/9 serving.

Semifinals

The Lady Mustangs defeated Bergman in the semifinals on Thursday, sweeping the Lady Panthers, 25-17, 25-10, 25-20.

Gillham had 10 digs, 12 kills, two blocks and was 14/14 serving, with an ace. Moody had 12 assists, two digs, three kills, a block and was 15/15 serving, with three aces. Roberts, had five digs, five kills, a block and was 15/15 serving, with an ace. Barker had 20 digs and was 5/5 serving. Henson finished with six kills and a block, and Orrick had nine digs and was 16/16 serving, with an ace. Britt had a dig, two kills and a block, and Davis had 14 assists, four digs, two kills, a block and was 8/8 serving.
