Mustangs trample Corning, 47-16
Diamani Davis ran for three touchdowns and Chandler Spradlin passed for two more as the Hoxie Mustangs routed the Corning Bobcats 47-16 in 3A-3 football action Friday night at Crider Field.
The Mustangs started quickly, with three touchdowns in the first quarter. Davis dashed 24 yards to open the scoring, and Carson Spargo's PAT gave Hoxie a 7-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, Spradlin passed to Gavin Waldrupe for a 36-yard touchdown and a 13-0 lead. Spradlin later found Lucky Fallis for a 33-yard strike. The two-point conversion gave the Mustangs a 21-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
The Mustang offense continued rolling in the second period. Davis broke free for a 34-yard run and Spargo kicked the extra point to boost the lead to 28-0.
Later in the quarter, Hayden Riggs scored on a 30-yard run, and Davis added a 16-yard touchdown run before halftime. Mackenzie Foresha kicked the PAT after Davis' run and the Mustangs carried a 41-0 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
Hoxie's only points of the second half came on Billy Hart's 58-yard touchdown in the third quarter to stretch the Mustangs' lead to 47-0. Corning scored a pair of touchdowns and conversions in the fourth to close out the scoring.
Davis totaled 125 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. Riggs finished with 58 yards and a touchdown on two carries, while Hart had one carry for a 58-yard touchdown. Spradlin had 31 yards on six attempts, and Keifer Wilson had two carries for nine yards.
Spradlin finished with five pass completions on eight attempts for 107 yards and two touchdowns.
Chance Moore had two catches for 22 yards. Waldrupe had a 36-yard touchdown reception, and Fallis had a 33-yard touchdown catch. Chase Moore caught one pass for 16 yards.
Davis and Riggs led the Hoxie defense with four tackles apiece. Drake Mounts, John T. Washburn and Hart each recorded three tackles. Fallis, Chase Moore, Cameron Johnson and Caleb Littlejohn each made two tackles. Wilson, Spargo, Chance Moore, Harley Cullins, River Brewer, Kaleb Mercado, Amos Bonner, Seth Morse and Ethan Blocker were each credited with one tackle.
Riggs, Washburn and Johnson each had a sack. Riggs and Washburn each had two tackles for loss, while Davis, Hart and Wilson each had one tackle for loss.
The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for Hoxie and improved their record to 3-2 in conference play and 4-4 overall. Friday night will be Senior Night at Crider Field as the Mustangs host the Piggott Mohawks in the home finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
