Mustangs trample Corning, 47-16
Diamani Davis ran for three touchdowns and Chandler Spradlin passed for two more as the Hoxie Mustangs routed the Corning Bobcats 47-16 in 3A-3 football action Friday night at Crider Field.
The Mustangs started quickly, with three touchdowns in the first quarter. Davis dashed 24 yards to open the scoring, and Carson Spargo's PAT gave Hoxie a 7-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, Spradlin passed to Gavin Waldrupe for a 36-yard touchdown and a 13-0 lead. Spradlin later found Lucky Fallis for a 33-yard strike. The two-point conversion gave the Mustangs a 21-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Bobcats fall to Piggott
A staunch Piggott Mohawk defense held Walnut Ridge to 67 yards of total offense while shutting out the Bobcats 44-0 in 3A-3 senior high football action Friday night at Piggott.
Piggott scored 14 points in the first and second quarters to lead 28-0 at halftime. The Mohawks added eight points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth to round out the scoring.
Piggott rolled up 297 yards of offense in the game, all on the ground.
Lady Mustangs are district runners-up
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs and Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats competed in the 3A Northeast District Volleyball tournament last week at Pleasant Plains.
Hoxie defeated Ridgefield Christian in the first round to set up a meeting with the Lady Bobcats, who had received a first-round bye. The Lady Mustangs won the semifinal matchup in three sets, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.
For Hoxie, Kelsey Moody had 14 assists, two digs, nine kills, a block and was 18/18 serving, with an ace. Christin Barker had 16 digs and was 7/7 serving. Kayla Roberts had two kills, two blocks and was 10/10 serving. Sydney Gillham had six digs, four kills, three blocks and was 14/15 serving, with two aces.
Hillcrest teams split games with Maynard
Hillcrest hosted Maynard in basketball action on Oct. 17 at Lynn. The senior boys came away with an 81-67 victory.
The Screamin' Eagles jumped out to an early 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 38-30 margin going into the half. At the end of the third quarter, Hillcrest was up 57-48 en route to the win.
Colton Rose led the Screamin' eagles with 22 points, Houston Netrefa had 18 and Nick Powell chipped in 10.
