Bobcats fall to Rivercrest
The Rivercrest Colts rolled off 35 unanswered points to pull away from the Walnut Ridge Bobcats for a 49-7 victory over the Bobcats Friday night at Sexton Field.
Rivercrest jumped on top early with a four-yard touchdown run by Maurice Williams and 19-yard run by Demilon Brown, as the Colts established a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
Slade Dalton's eight-yard touchdown run, followed by Nick Foster's extra point, brought the Bobcats back to within 14-7 with 11:05 to play before halftime.
The Colts stretched to 21-7 on Williams' 36-yard burst with 9:15 to play in the quarter.
Rivercrest continued to pull away after the intermission. Touchdown runs by Williams and Brown in the third quarter increased the Colts' advantage to 35-7. A defensive touchdown put Rivercrest ahead 42-7 after three quarters.
The Colts' final touchdown came on a two-yard run by Kaleb Long with 8:12 to play in the game.
The loss was the fourth straight for the Bobcats and left them with an 0-4 record in 3A-3 Conference play and 2-5 overall.
Colin Phillips led Walnut Ridge in rushing with 61 yards on 14 carries. Cade Burris had 52 yards on 14 attempts. Andrew Brewer added 29 yards on nine carries, and Logan Morris carried twice for two yards.
Brewer was 0-for-4 passing for the Cats.
Nash Gill, Phillips and Burris led Walnut Ridge's defense with eight tackles apiece, and Foster recorded five tackles.
The Bobcats are on the road this week to face the Piggott Mohawks in another conference matchup. Game time is 7 p.m.
