Bobcats fall to Rivercrest

The Rivercrest Colts rolled off 35 unanswered points to pull away from the Walnut Ridge Bobcats for a 49-7 victory over the Bobcats Friday night at Sexton Field.

Rivercrest jumped on top early with a four-yard touchdown run by Maurice Williams and 19-yard run by Demilon Brown, as the Colts established a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

Slade Dalton's eight-yard touchdown run, followed by Nick Foster's extra point, brought the Bobcats back to within 14-7 with 11:05 to play before halftime.

The Colts stretched to 21-7 on Williams' 36-yard burst with 9:15 to play in the quarter.

Rivercrest continued to pull away after the intermission. Touchdown runs by Williams and Brown in the third quarter increased the Colts' advantage to 35-7. A defensive touchdown put Rivercrest ahead 42-7 after three quarters.

Mustangs fall to Osceola

The Osceola Seminoles built a 24-7 lead through three quarters and survived a high-scoring fourth period to defeat the Hoxie Mustangs 44-27 in 3A-3 Conference football action Friday night at Osceola.

Hoxie led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter on Chandler Spradlin's 15-yard touchdown pass to Chance Moore with 8:31 to play. Carson Spargo added the extra point.

A 29-yard run by Osceola's Derrell Brown Jr. cut the lead to 7-6. Ivan Leon booted the PAT to tie the score 7-7 with 6:10 to play before halftime. Later in the quarter, Brown outraced the Hoxie defense for a 71-yard touchdown run. Leon's PAT gave Osceola a 14-7 lead with 4:21 remaining before the intermission.

Lady Cats beat Hoxie in five-set match

Walnut Ridge hosted the Hoxie Lady Mustangs in 3A Northeast volleyball action on Oct. 10 at Sharum Gymnasium in Walnut Ridge.

The senior high match went to five sets, with the Lady Bobcats eking out a thrilling victory, 25-23, 25-21, 13-25, 23-25, 15-6.

For Walnut Ridge, Sydney Burgin was 23/23 serving, with two aces, four kills, 20 assists, a block and 30 digs. Katie Kersey was 17/18 serving, with an ace and 19 digs. Anna Wilcoxson was 13/14 serving, with two aces and 25 digs. Baylee Haskins was 15/17 serving, with two aces, 13 kills, two assists, three blocks and 18 digs.

CRA breaks Lady Mustang streak

The Hoxie volleyball teams squared off against the Ridgefield Christian Lady Warriors on Thursday at Jonesboro.

Hoxie won the senior high match in three sets, 25-11, 25-11, 25-14.

Kelsey Moody had 15 assists, five digs, seven kills, a block and was 12/14 serving, with an ace. Kayla Roberts had an assist, two digs, four kills, two blocks and was 4/4 serving, and Christin Barker had 15 digs. Sydney Gillham had eight digs, nine kills, a block and was 17/17 serving, with two aces. Kaitlin Henson had a dig, six kills and a block. Mackenzie Orrick had eight digs and was 15/15 serving. Ellie Britt had a dig, three kills and three blocks, and Emily Davis had 14 assists, three digs, four kills and was 18/18 serving, with two aces.

Lady Bobcat teams earn runners-up honors

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcat volleyball team hosted Piggott for Senior Night on Thursday at Sharum Gymnasium. The Lady Mohawks defeated Walnut Ridge in four sets, 28-26, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22.

Lady Bobcat seniors Olivia Cox, Laurel Gaither, Baylee Haskins, Madi Mullen and Anna Wilcoxson were honored.

During the match for Walnut Ridge, Sydney Burgin was 15/16 serving, with an ace, six kills, 21 assists, two blocks and 23 digs. Katie Kersey was 14/15 serving, with two aces and 12 digs. Wilcoxson was 14/15 serving, and had 17 digs. Haskins was 16/18 serving, with an ace, four kills, a block and 18 digs. Sheridan Smith had eight kills, two assists, two blocks and two digs. Mullen finished with six kills, an assist, two blocks and eight digs, and Gaither added six digs. Cox had eight kills, an assist, two blocks and five digs. Baylee Davis had six assists and 13 digs, and Jordyn Jones had two aces, six kills, seven blocks and three digs.
