Lady Mustangs record victories
The Hoxie senior high volleyball team improved their record to a perfect 18-0 with wins over Cave City, Highland and Cedar Ridge. The junior Lady Mustangs ran their record to 15-3 with victories over the same opponents.
The Lady Mustangs defeated Cave City 25-10, 25-17, 25-12 on Thursday at Cave City.
For Hoxie, Kelsey Moody had 10 assists, three digs, nine kills, two blocks and was 16/16 serving, with four aces. Kayla Roberts had three digs, nine kills, a block and an ace. Christin Barker had 10 digs and was 9/9 serving. Kaitlin Henson had an assist, three kills and two blocks. Mackenzie Orrick had four digs and was 10/10 serving, with an ace. Ellie Britt had a dig, two kills and four blocks. Emily Davis had 12 assists, two digs, three kills and was 16/16 serving, and Sarah Riggs had four digs, a kill and was 11/12 serving.
Mustangs fall to Rivercrest in back-and-forth game
The Rivercrest Colts needed a fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Hoxie Mustangs 43-33 in 3A-3 football action Friday night at Wilson. Both teams entered the contest with 2-0 records in conference play.
Hoxie got on the scoreboard first when Diamani Davis ran for an 11-yard touchdown with 6:56 to play in the first quarter. Carson Spargo added the extra-point for a 7-0 Mustang lead.
Rivercrest tied the game on a one-yard run by Demilon Brown at the 1:56 mark of the opening period.
Bobcats fall to Osceola
Osceola quarterback D.J. File threw for two touchdowns and the Seminoles used a strong ground game to defeat the Walnut Ridge Bobcats 35-14 in 3A-3 senior football action Friday night at Sexton Field.
Walnut Ridge scored the game's first points on a five-yard run by Logan Morris midway through the first quarter. Slade Dalton ran for the two-point conversion to give the Bobcats an early 8-0 lead.
The Seminoles answered quickly when File found Taylin Gavin for a 48-yard touchdown pass on Osceola's ensuing possession. The Seminoles settled for the PAT, leaving Walnut Ridge with an 8-7 advantage, which would last into the second quarter.
Lady Cats beat Highland
After beginning the week with a pair of tough losses, the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcat volleyball team closed the week with a four-set victory over the Highland Lady Rebels on Thursday at Sharum Gymnasium. The Lady Cats claimed the win 25-10, 25-27, 25-19, 25-18.
Sydney Burgin was 23/24 serving, with three aces, three kills, 21 assists, three blocks and 20 digs. Katie Kersey had one ace, one assist and six digs. Anna Wilcoxson was 13/14 serving, with an ace, a kill and 19 digs. Baylee Haskins was 13/16 serving, with three aces, 10 kills, an assist and nine digs.
