Lease is topic at airport meeting

David Blakeney with Arkansas Turbine Services spoke out at Monday night's Walnut Ridge Regional Airport Commission meeting. Blakeney said the new lease he has been presented fails to recognize a long-standing agreement between him and the airport.

Under the previous lease, which expired in October 2016, Blakeney agreed to pay extra on his rent to provide funding for improvements on the building. Once improvements were completed, Blakeney would return to his regular rate.

However, in the airport's efforts to bring all leases into compliance, the rent on the new lease was raised to match the cost structure of the airport. Chairman Don Cavenaugh said the cost needs to be uniform to be fair to all lessees.

The commission tabled action on the lease to allow Blakeney to decide if he wants to continue to lease the building.
