Bobcats beat Harrisburg, 44-34

Cade Burris and Tyler Hall each ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns as the Walnut Ridge Bobcats defeated the Harrisburg Hornets 44-34 in senior high football action Friday night at Sexton Field.

Walnut Ridge raced out to a 24-0 lead in the first half before the Hornets scored a touchdown and two-point conversion late in the second period to cut the Bobcats' lead to 24-8 at the intermission.

Tristan Hoffman started the scoring with a 10-yard run with 9:13 to play in the first quarter. Hoffman passed to Andrew Brewer for the conversion to give Walnut Ridge an early 8-0 advantage.

Walnut Ridge extended their lead early in the second period on Burris' seven-yard run. Hoffman passed to Hall for the conversion, putting the Bobcats ahead 16-0 with 10:32 to play before halftime.

Mustangs blank Cave City

The Hoxie Mustangs earned their first victory of the senior high football season with a 40-0 blowout win over the Cave City Cavemen Friday night at Cave City.

The Mustangs' first score came on a 63-yard touchdown pass from Chandler Spradlin to Chase Moore. Carson Spargo added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Hoxie's next score also came via the big play when Diamani Davis dashed through the Cavemen defense for a 58-yard run. Spargo's PAT gave the Mustangs a 14-0 lead.

Spradlin scored on a 14-yard run and Spargo added the extra point, as Hoxie closed out the first quarter with a 21-0 advantage.

Mustangs blank Cave City

Hoxie needed four sets to dispatch Highland's Lady Rebels in high school volleyball action Thursday at Highland. The Lady Mustangs dropped the first set 25-27, but fought back to win the next three sets, 25-16, 25-23, 25-23.

Hoxie was led by Kelsey Moody, who finished with 23 assists, 11 digs, 12 kills, two blocks and was 14/15 serving, with four aces. Kayla Roberts had three digs, nine kills and was 14/15 serving, with five aces. Christin Barker had 25 digs and was 14/14 serving, Kaitlin Henson had 13 kills.

Mackenzie Orrick had 11 digs and was 12/12 serving, with two aces. Ellie Britt had four digs, four kills and a block. Emily Davis had 19 assists, five kills and was 21/22 serving, with two aces, and Sarah Riggs had 10 digs, three kills and was 17/17 serving, with an ace.

Lady Cats have split week

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats hosted Pocahontas in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday at Sharum Gymnasium. The Lady Redskins won the closely contested match in four sets 25-12, 27-25, 23-25, 26-24.

For Walnut Ridge, Sydney Burgin was 15/17 serving, with 12 kills, 27 assists and 12 digs. Katie Kersey was 11/14 serving and had an assist and 10 digs. Anna Wilcoxson was 21/22 serving, with an ace and 17 digs. Baylee Haskins was 12/13 serving, with an ace, 13 kills, a block and 15 digs.

Sheridan Smith had three kills, two assists and four digs, and Madi Mullen added three digs. Olivia Cox had four kills, a block and two digs. Baylee Davis was 12/13 serving, with an ace, a kill, 21 assists and seven digs, and Jordyn Jones contributed 18 kills and four digs.
