Mustangs drop close

The Westside Warriors came up with a late interception to seal a 35-27 victory over the Hoxie Mustangs in senior high football action Friday night at Crider Field.
After a scoreless first quarter, both offenses began rolling in the second period. Hoxie opened the scoring on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Chandler Spradlin to Chance Moore at the 10:50 mark of the period. Carson Spargo addd the PAT for a 7-0 Mustang lead.
Westside answered with touchdowns on their next two drives to take a 14-7 lead with 2:12 to play in the half.
The Mustangs responded with a clutch drive late in the quarter, capped by Spradlin's four-yard run on the final play before intermission. Spargo's extra point sent the teams to the locker room deadlocked 14-14.
Bobcats fall to EPC
The East Poinsett County Warriors used a strong running game and a stout defense to defeat Walnut Ridge 14-6 in senior football action Friday night at Lepanto.
The Warriors' Dee Buchanan and Eric Driver combined for over 230 yards rushing, while EPC's defense held the Bobcats to 106 yards on the ground.
EPC scored to take a 6-0 lead with 5:06 to play in the first quarter, but the Bobcats' defense stopped the two-point attempt. The Warriors stretched their advantage to 14-0 on a touchdown and two-point conversion at the 2:52 mark of the second quarter.
Lady Cats beat ICC
Walnut Ridge defeated Izard County Consolidated in senior high volleyball action Thursday night at Sharum Gymnasium. The Lady Bobcats won the match in three sets, 25-9, 25-8, 25-10.
For Walnut Ridge, Anna Wilcoxson had an ace, a kill and three digs. Baylee Davis was 16/17 serving, with three aces, 10 assists and two digs. Baylee Haskins was 9/10 serving, with three aces, five kills and three digs. Claire Fisher had one dig, and Jordyn Jones added six kills and a block. Katie Kersey was 21/21 serving, with two aces, an assist and two digs. Laurel Gaither had a kill, two assists and two digs, and Madi Mullen contributed five kills. Olivia Cox had 12 kills and two digs. Sydney Burgin had two aces, five kills, 17 assists and two digs. Sheridan Smith had three kills, two assists and two digs, and Shyanne Foley had a kill.
Lady Mustangs have winning week
Hoxie's senior high volleyball team enjoyed a successful week on the court, winning matches against Pocahontas and Izard County Consolidated without dropping a set.
The Lady Mustangs defeated Pocahontas 25-23, 25-15, 25-15.
Kelsey Moody led Hoxie with 10 assists, six digs, five kills and was 19/19 serving, with six aces. Sydney Gillham added six digs, five kills and four blocks. Kayla Roberts had four digs, three kills, two blocks and was 16/17 serving, with four aces.
