Gretchen Hunt

The Beatles at the Ridge festival will kick off Friday afternoon in downtown Walnut Ridge.

Doors will open for the Artists and Authors Symposium on Friday at 2 p.m. at The Studio, located on Main Street, and the official kickoff for the festival will be a "John Lennon" concert by Alan Bernhoft at 3:30 p.m.

Symposium events will continue through the evening, including a meet and greet and an interview of two stewardesses who traveled with The Beatles in 1964 on Reed Pigman's Electra II.

In addition, music will begin at 6 p.m. on the First National Bank Beatles Park Stage, with Deadwood Groove, followed by The Legendary Pacers, who will present a concert in tribute to Sonny Burgess.

Saturday morning, starting at 9 a.m., there will be children's activities at The Studio, and outdoor activities will kick off with a martial arts presentation on the Beatles Park stage.

A variety of vendors will line the streets on both sides of Main Street as performances, presentations and activities continue throughout the day.

Presenters at the symposium will include: featured author Bruce Spizer, Dr. Ken Womack, Lanea Stagg, Sara Schmidt, Dr. Kit O'Toole, Terri Whitney, Rande Kessler, Jude Southerland Kessler and featured artist Enoch Doyle Jeter. Featured symposium musicians will be Bernhoft and Cameron Hicks.

The Argenta Collection photo exhibit will also be on display in The Studio. In addition, a car show will be held down Abbey Road and the second annual Rockin' Wings at the Ridge contest will be featured.

Branson's Liverpool Legends will again headline the music festival, which is free to all to attend. They are scheduled to take the stage on the Cavenuagh Chevrolet Rock 'n' Roll Highway Stage on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Other music performances on Saturday will include: Sommer and the Young'ins, Arkansas Brothers, Jeffrey and the Pacemakers and Riverbilly.
