Emma Reese Richardson

Joseph and Rachael Richardson of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, born on Aug. 24, 2017, at St. Bernard's Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, six ounces, and has been named Emma Reese Richardson.

Grandparents are Steve and Paula Jackson of Walnut Ridge and Joe Bryan and Jo Richardson of Hoxie.

Great-grandparents are Betty Richardson, Bob and Peggy McMillon, Gary and Maggie Sears, Bob and Mary Ann Jackson, all of Walnut Ridge; and Joe Richardson of Jonesboro.

Thacker ~ Mans

Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Darrell Thacker of Pocahontas have announced the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Jerica Danyel Thacker, to Jake Ryan Mans, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Mans of Imboden.

The couple will exchange vows on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m. at the James Ranch Lodge in Pocahontas.

All family and friends are invited.

Tyler ~ Guthrey

Steven and Vicki Tyler of Jonesboro have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jordan Nicole Tyler, to Dr. Caleb Logan Guthrey, son of Carl and Kathy Guthrey of Jonesboro.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Alice Guntharp Phipps of Jonesboro, formerly of Walnut Ridge. She is a 2007 graduate of Jonesboro High School and studied nursing at Arkansas State University and University of Arkansas at Little Rock, earning her degree in 2014. She is employed as a registered nurse.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Clarence "Sonny" and Estel Guthrey of Corning. He is a 2008 graduate of Nettleton High School, a 2012 graduate of ASU and a 2016 graduate of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He is currently practicing medicine as a pediatric resident.

The couple will exchange vows at The Silos in Bono. Invitations will be issued.

Imogene Fry

Imogene Fry, 61, of Hoxie, died Sept. 3, 2017, in Newport.

Born June 21, 1956, in Jonesboro, she was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeana Wilson; her parents, Albert and Leafie Russell Green; and a sister, Bertha Krantz.

Survivors include her husband, Jolly Ray Fry, whom she married Dec. 15, 1987; four daughters, Stephanie Dunn, Jewell Fry and Janie Green, all of Hoxie, and Debra Nicholas and husband Darrell, Maynard; three brothers, Chester Green, Walnut Ridge, and Joe Green and Isaac Green, both of Hoxie; four sisters, Della Finney, Kansas, Mary Pittman, Jonesboro, and Virginia Goza and Jeannit Meadows, both of Tuckerman; and 17 grandchildren.

Graveside service is Friday at 4 p.m. at Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia with Gerald Goza and Wilma Chastain officiating. Bryan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Green, Kenny Green, Allen Winemiller, Harold White, Sadie Dunn, Ed Berndt, Michael Fry and Charlie Gates.

Visitation is Friday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hester Helms

Hester Maud Helms, 93, of Batesville, died Aug. 31, 2017, at Wood Lawn Nursing Home.

Born July 6, 1924, in Strawberry, she was the daughter of Walt and Maude Smith Guerin. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Helms, whom she married April 4, 1942; two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Charles Helms and wife Elaine, Walnut Ridge, Lyndall Helms and wife Ann, Yellville, Danny Helms and wife Mona, Conway, and Joe Helms, Pleasant Plains; nine grandchildren, Matthew Helms, Ryan Helms, LeAnna Fuller, Mellissa Myracle, Lanisa Hernandez, Garrett Helms, Laura Yarberry, Scott Helms and Shane Helms; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Hope Cemetery, near Denton, with Bro. Joe Helms officiating. Bryan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Matthew Helms, Ryan Helms, Scott Helms, Shane Helms, Garrett Helms, Hunter Helms, Nathan Fuller and Blake Fuller. All other grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary pallbearers.

Ruby Hill

Ruby Louise Willis Hill, 98, of Pocahontas, died Sept. 3, 2017, at Randolph County Nursing Home in Pocahontas.

Born June 7, 1919, in Black Rock, she was the daughter of Houston and May Pickney Willis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Paul Hill; two brothers, Vernon Willis and Hall Willis; two sisters, Wilma Smith and Lucille Willis; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Hill; and two sons-in-law, Dale Richey and A.C. Harris.

Survivors include three sons, Willis Hill and wife Judy, Pocahontas, Paul Hill, Paragould, and Larry Hill and wife Linda, Bono; two daughters, Freda Richey, Pocahontas, and Phyllis Harris, Jonesboro; a sister-in-law, Glenda Willis and husband Hall, Bedford, Ind.; six grandchildren, Kimberly Richey Dunlap, Cassie Hill Foster, Kelly Richey Weekley, Wendy Hill Lowery, Lindsey Hill and Tony Rash; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Art Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oak Forest Cemetery at Black Rock.

Visitation is today from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

James William Montgomery

James William Montgomery, 75, of Powhatan, died Aug. 30, 2017, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Aug. 22, 1942, in Pocahontas, he lived in Walnut Ridge until his late teenage years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Willie White Montgomery; and a brother, Ralph Montgomery.

Survivors include three sons, James Montgomery and wife Annette, Fitchburg, Wis., Glenn Montgomery and wife Maria, Herndon, Va., and Alan Montgomery and wife Jennifer, Upper St. Clair, Pa.; a sister, Mildred, Hessling, Morton, Ill.; and nine grandchildren, Katherine, Adam, Lauren, Olivia, Alyssa, Grace, Sara, Sophia and Sydney Montgomery.

A memorial service was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home with James Sullivan officiating.

Aris Ray Norman

Aris Ray Norman, 75, of Strawberry, died Sept. 1, 2017, at his home.

Born Sept. 15, 1941, at Strawberry, he was a retired truck driver and farmer and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Norman; his parents, Walter E. and Imogene Williams Norman; and a brother, Kenny Norman.

Survivors include a son, Bob Norman and wife Autumn, Batesville; a daughter, Robin Qualls, Strawberry; a brother, Danny Joe Norman, Southside; a sister, Donna Kay Pledger, Batesville; four grandchildren, James Taylor, Lisa Norman, Crystal Richey and Heather Bledsoe; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Qualls Funeral Home in Cave City with Kennard Ward and Joe Guthrie officiating. Burial was in Ward Cemetery at Strawberry.

Pallbearers were Michael Bacon, Tommy Bacon, Blaine Bacon, Heith Russell, Keith Russell and Jonathan Bacon. Honorary pallbearers were Darrell Ford, Jim Rex Williams and his great-grandchildren.

Joan Ratliff

Joan Ratliff, 84, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 1, 2017, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 1, 1933, she was the daughter of Everett and Ola Eskridge Looney.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo Carnie Ratliff; and a sister, Patsy Swindle.

Survivors include a sister, Kay Mathews and husband Don, Walnut Ridge; four nieces, Judy Swindle, San Antonio, Libby Bennett and Cindy Lester and husband Chuck, all of Hot Springs, and Jennifer Townsend and husband Corley, Little Rock; and two great-nephews, Blake Lester and Jonathan Lester.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Beth Perdue officiating. Burial was in Austin Cemetery near Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers were Blake Lester, Corley Townsend, James Pickney, Bobby Brasfield and Dud Bassett.

Jerry Buck Willfond

Jerry "Buck" Willfond, 69, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 3, 2017, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 7, 1947, in Walnut Ridge, he was a truck driver and was of the Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Frankie Hibbard Willfond; a sister, Melba Jones; and a grandson, Tyler William Alls.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Willfond; a son, Phillip Willfond and wife Deanna, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Geri Ann Alls and husband Richard, Egypt; two sisters, Betty Stayton and Joyce Hutsell, both of Hoxie; two grandchildren, Drew Alls and Ashley Leann Hill; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at noon at Cox Funeral Home with Dale Hughart officiating. Burial will be in Arnold Cemetery near Swifton.

Pallbearer will be Hunter Ozburn, Drew Alls, Jim Cagle, Richard Alls and Tim Hutsell. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Gray, Sam Moore and Tom Moore.

Visitation is Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon.
