Lesa Walter, who is wrapping up her second month as the new Lawrence County Chamber director, spent Sunday through Tuesday in Hot Springs for the Arkansas Economic Developers and Chamber Executives annual conference.

The event included breakout sessions on a variety of topics, as well as luncheons with Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Elise Mitchell, CEO of Mitchell and Dentsu Aegis Public Relations Network, as keynote speakers.

"Now that I am getting settled in at the Chamber office, I have been attending regional and state meetings with focuses on membership, economic development and site selection," Walter said.

Walter said she has spent the first two months learning the day-to-day operations of the Chamber.

"I've been working at the Chamber just under two months now," she said. "I am seeing the bigger picture, from the inside, of what all it takes to make a community thrive and grow."

She said key areas that impact the county include workforce, economic development, education, housing and legislation.

"Situations are always changing and as we move toward the future we must be informed and able to move forward while adapting to changes that may arise," she said.

She said the AEDCE state conference and other meetings have helped her to keep up-to-date on what may be in-store in the near future.

"I am enjoying meeting others involved in Arkansas Chambers and economic development," she said. "They have been very kind, helpful and informative. I look forward to working with these and other state and regional officials as we move forward."

Welcome breakfast
set for Walter

The Chamber will host a Power Breakfast this Thursday from 7-9 a.m. at the Chamber office, located at 109 Southwest Front Street in Walnut Ridge, to officially welcome the new director.

Walter said she looks forward to visiting with local business owners and representatives.

"I look forward to meeting those I don't know and invite everyone to stop by for a visit and refreshments," she said.
