Event raises $30,000
for Children's Shelter
Approximately 190 people from Northeast Arkansas came out to attend The Children's Shelter Summer Gala on Thursday night at The Studio in Walnut Ridge. The gala raised approximately $30,000, reported Fran Cavenaugh of the event committee.
"I want to thank everyone for coming out to support the shelter and raise money," Cavenaugh said. She also thanked those who donated auction items.
With state funding cut back, these fundraisers for the shelter are even more vital, she added.
The gala included both a silent and live auction, with Ronnie "Frog" Light serving as auctioneer. Mel Fender of Chicken Shack Produce catered the hors d'oeuvres, dinner and desserts.
Serving on the gala committee with Cavenaugh were Sharna Butts, Jana Caldwell, Chad Chester, Melissa McVay, Milton Smith and Judy Turnbull.
Among the volunteers assisting were Ed Harris, Tonjia Miles, Dina Rose, Madisyn Salard and Gary Salard Jr.
The Children's Shelter, located in Walnut Ridge, is a private, non-profit organization that provides 24-hour emergency, temporary residential care to children who are victims of family violence, neglect or abuse.
