Since Tuesday of last week, when Stan Jones of Clover Bend was appointed to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, he has hit the ground running.
The day after Governor Asa Hutchinson announced the appointment, Jones began orientation. He was scheduled to finish it on Monday. His first meetings with the commission were scheduled to begin today and continue on Thursday. Jones said the AG&F Commission has meetings each month.
Regarding the appointment, Jones said, "I'm humbled and honored, as well."
Gov. Hutchinson said, "To me, the appointment of a Game and Fish Commissioner is one of the most important appointments a governor can make. As a fifth-generation farmer and an avid outdoorsman, Stan appreciates Arkansas in ways that few others do, and he is a perfect fit for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission."
Jones, who is a lifelong outdoorsman and hunter, said, "He (the governor) knows I'll take care of our natural resources."
Besides farming 7,000 acres, Jones is also owner of Banded outdoor sporting apparel, Avery Outdoors and the Stan Jones Mallard Lodge at Clover Bend.
Gov. Hutchinson said, "I've spent a lot of time around Stan in the last two years in the duck woods and around him. I've seen how he knows the habitat. He appreciates and works to protect it, and that is the essence of a Game and Fish Commissioner."
Jones' term will expire in 2024. He replaces Fred Brown of Corning, whose term expired in June.
