The Walnut Ridge Cal Ripken League is coming to a close for the 2017 season.
Baseball, softball and t-ball programs began for girls and boys ages three to 12 on April 17. Games were scheduled to conclude on June 5, but due to the recent weather, makeup games will continue through the next week.
"Other than the weather issues that set us back, we've had a pretty smooth season," said Jacob Kersey, secretary of the Walnut Ridge Cal Ripken League.
The program has been steadily growing over the past couple years. Last year, the Walnut Ridge program changed its affiliation from Little League to Cal Ripken, enabling the teams to have more competition on the district level.
Additionally, on the local level, teams from Hillcrest, Imboden and Maynard have joined the league. This provides more competition, games and participants within the league.
