Hoggard enjoying time
as WR airport manager
Stacy Hoggard of Walnut Ridge never had aspirations to work at an airport; however since she started her job at Walnut Ridge Regional Airport last week, she has been overwhelmed with new information and enjoying every step of the way.
Hoggard said it was actually her sister, Pam Horton, who convinced her to apply for the job. Before then, being an airport manager wasn't even on Hoggard's radar.
However, in many ways it seemed like a perfect fit for the Hoxie native. While living in Pocahontas and other areas for much of her life, she moved back to Walnut Ridge seven years ago and is excited to be the face of Walnut Ridge for those traveling in by plane.
Community involvement was specified as one of the requirements for a new airport manager. Hoggard said she is looking forward to visiting many local businesses so she can help promote them to airport arrivals.
Another requirement for the job was business management experience, of which Hoggard has in abundance after having worked with managers of several companies over the years.
Airport Commission Chair Don Cavenaugh said the airport has been in need of a new manager.
"You'll have plenty to do, I promise you that," Cavenaugh said jokingly to Hoggard at Monday night's commission meeting.
However, Hoggard is ready to take on the challenge. "I really love it. It's very interesting and I'm learning a lot."
Hoggard has two sons, Jeremy Hoggard, and girlfriend Robin Everett, and Jordan Hoggard, and wife Kori. Jordan and Kori have a four-year-old son, Jax.
Hoggard is the daughter of Beatrice Graham and the late Lowell Graham, who served as a Free Will Baptist minister. She also plays piano at First Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.
Since taking on the role as airport manager, Hoggard said her biggest highlight has been watching the C130s perform their touch and go exercises. She looks forward to the surprises in store for her.
"It's going to be fun."
