Rails to Trails spur
The Walnut Ridge Regional Airport Commission voted to approve a Rails to Trails spur at Monday night's meeting. The spur will connect the trail to the Williams Baptist College and cut through part of airport property.
The spur will utilize about a quarter acre of airport land. While a different route could lessen this, it would delay the project for several months. Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp said he was willing to sacrifice the quarter of an acre needed for the project to get it built faster and have a direct bike access to Walnut Ridge for WBC students.
to be demolished
The commission also voted to demolish the former country club building. The building will be taken to a pre-lease state using the most affordable method possible.
In other business:
CPA Deborah Smith introduced her new partner, Danny Mayfield, who will be attending all future airport commission meetings representing Smith Mayfield LLC.
Airport Manager Stacy Hoggard will get quotes on an annual contract for pest and termite control. The airport is currently paying out quarterly.
the commission set new authorized personnel for the airport's checking account. Stacy Hoggard, Danny Mayfield, Lloyd Clark, Don Cavenaugh and Charles Snapp were approved for the account.
Cavenaugh said they would review the Lawrence County Amateur Radio Club agreement and determine at a future meeting if rent should be charged. The club has been offered a space rent free due to the asset it provides in emergency situations.
commissioners discussed the recent air show hosted by the Wings of Honor Museum. They were pleased to see the attendance and commended the organizers.
Chair Don Cavenaugh said a warranty inspection found some areas in a recent pavement rehabilitation project that needed additional work. Repairs have since been made.
a meet and greet for Stacy Hoggard will be held Monday, June 26, from 5-6 p.m.
