Lady Bobcats advance to state
aylee Davis hit a home run and had three RBIs to lead the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats to a 7-1 victory over Mountain View in the first round of the Region 3A-3 Softball Tournament at Manila on Saturday.
In addition to sending the Lady Cats into the semifinals, the win also secured a spot in the 3A State Softball Tournament.
Against Mountain View, Walnut Ridge got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Baylee Haskins drew a leadoff walk. Haskins stole second base and scored on a single by Davis to give the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead.
Lady Eagles advance to national tourney
The Williams Baptist College Lady Eagles softball team will be returning to the NAIA National Championship for the second consecutive year, and for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. They booked their place after finishing as runner-up in the American Midwest Conference Tournament on Friday.
After losing the opening game of the final four to Freed-Hardeman University on Thursday, the 24th-ranked Lady Eagles needed to win two games on Friday to guarantee their opportunity to compete for an NAIA Championship. Sophomore Cat Totty came in, in relief to get wins against both Park University and Freed-Hardeman, sealing an automatic bid for WBC.
Screamin' Eagles fall to Armorel
Armorel's Seth Wyatt threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 12 batters as the Tigers defeated the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles 3-0 in the first round of the 1A Region 2 Baseball Tournament on Friday at Armorel.
The Tigers scratched out single runs in the first, third and sixth innings.
