Lady Cats earn wins
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcat softball team earned victories over Piggott and Manila in 3A-3 Conference play last week.
The Lady Cats defeated Piggott's Lady Mohawks 10-6 on April 11 at Piggott.
Baylee Davis had the hot bat for Walnut Ridge, going 3-for-4, including a home run, and driving in three runs. Katie Kersey also went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs. Baylee Haskins and Alyssa Jones each went 2-for-4 with a double.
Haskins recorded eight strikeouts from the circle while pitching a complete game.
Walnut Ridge defeated the Manila Lady Lions 17-7 on April 10 at Stewart Park.
S-H baseball team records wins
The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds traveled to Flippin on Friday and swept a baseball doubleheader from the Bobcats. The Greyhounds won the opener 13-6 and followed up by taking the nightcap 17-7.
In game one, Sloan-Hendrix scored a run in the first inning and three in the second for an early 4-0 lead. They pushed the lead to 10-0 with a six-run fifth inning. Flippin kept the game alive by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Each team scored three runs in the seventh inning to set the final score.
Colton Dail led the Hounds at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scoring four runs. Logan Dail and Colby Johnson each had two hits and two RBIs, while Tyler Murphy finished with two hits and one RBI. Jordan Dail and Riley Hale each had a hit and two RBIs, and Devin Meeks had one hit and one RBI.
Hillcrest beats Marmaduke, Maynard, falls to Rector
The Rector Cougars defeated Hillcrest 7-3 in high school baseball action on April 10 at Rector.
Rector scored a run in the first inning, three in the second and one run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to build a 7-0 lead. The Screamin' Eagles battled for three runs in the top of the seventh inning to avoid the shutout.
Colton Rose went 2-for-4 and scored a run for Hillcrest. Clint Nunnally had a hit and an RBI, and Kord Woodard and C.J. Jeffery also had one hit apiece.
Mustangs have tough week
The Hoxie Mustangs dropped both ends of a baseball doubleheader to the Pocahontas Redskins on Thursday at Pocahontas. The Redskins won the opener 13-1 and took the second game 8-3.
For Hoxie in the opener, Augustus Wicker went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Noah Wiles and Spencer Decker each had a hit for the Mustangs.
A.J. Champion took the loss on the mound. He gave up nine earned runs on nine hits and had two strikeouts. Landon Durham pitched in relief and allowed three earned runs on two hits, with three strikeouts.
Greyhounds beat Hillcrest
The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds defeated the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles 7-2 in high school baseball action April 11 at Imboden.
Hillcrest got on the scoreboard first when Clint Nunnally scored on an RBI single by Kord Woodard in the top of the first inning.
Sloan-Hendrix responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, as Brantley Gholson, Colby Johnson and Riley Hale had RBI hits for the Greyhounds.
Bobcats beat Cave City
The Walnut Ridge Bobcat baseball team traveled to Cave City on Thursday and defeated the Cavemen 12-1 in five innings in 3A/4A District 3 action.
Walnut Ridge led 1-0 after one inning and broke the game open with a six-run second inning to push their lead to 7-0. The Bobcats added a run in the third inning, two in the fourth and two in the fifth for a 12-0 lead. Cave City scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough to keep the game from ending due to the run rule.
