Lady Cats have busy week
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcat softball team competed in the Lady Colt Softball Classic at Wilson last weekend. The Lady Cats won a pair of games on Saturday, defeating Gosnell 5-0 and host Rivercrest 10-9.
Against Gosnell, Briley Henson went 2-for-3, with a double. Baylee Davis had a hit and two RBIs.
Baylee Haskins led Walnut Ridge at the plate against Rivercrest, going 2-for-3, with a two-run home run.
Haskins was the winning pitcher in both contests.
The Highland Lady Rebels defeated Walnut Ridge 13-5 on Thursday at Stewart Park.
Walnut Ridge scored first, with three runs in the first inning, but the Lady Rebels tied the game with three runs in the second inning, then added four runs in the third to pull out to a 7-3 lead.
Highland added one run in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to stretch out to a 13-5 advantage.
Haskins went 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Briley Henson went 3-for-3, and Shyanne Foley went 2-for-4.
Haskins took the loss in the circle.
Walnut Ridge edged Cave City 2-1 in eight innings on March 29.
The Lady Bobcats scored a run in the top of the second inning and it appeared the 1-0 lead would hold up until the Cavewomen rallied for the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Walnut Ridge placed Henson on second to start the eighth inning. Following a pair of strikeouts, Haskins smashed a two-out double to center field, scoring Henson with the go-ahead run.
Brooke Henry took second base to start the bottom of the inning for Cave City. Henry quickly moved to third on a passed ball. With the tying run 60 feet away, Haskins fanned the next three batters to preserve the Lady Cats' victory.
Haskins finished 1-for-4 at the plate, with an RBI. Henson went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Foley had a hit and scored a run, and Katie Kersey had two hits.
In the circle, Haskins pitched an eight-inning complete game, allowing one earned run on seven hits and ringing up 12 strikeouts.
Walnut Ridge routed Melbourne 17-2 on March 28 at Melbourne.
Offensively, Foley and Haskins each had four hits and three RBIs. Baylee Burris had three hits and two RBIs. Henson had two hits and drove in a run, and Kersey added two hits.
Haskins pitched a complete game for the win.
