WR defeats Pocahontas, Cave City
The Walnut Ridge Bobcat baseball team hosted Pocahontas and Cave City in a doubleheader at Stewart Park on March 20. The Bobcats came away with a pair of one-run victories, defeating the Redskins 9-8 and the Cavemen 2-1.
Pocahontas scored four runs in each of the first two innings for an early 8-0 lead. Walnut Ridge began to chip with away a run in the bottom of the third inning. The Cats added three runs in the fourth inning to make the score 8-4, and plated three more runs in the fifth inning to close to within one run, 8-7.
Trailing by a run in the bottom of the sixth, Weir reached base on a bunt single and stole second base. Phillips bunted and a throwing error allowed Will Weir to score and Colin Phillips to reach second base. After Chaz Burgin sacrificed Phillips to third, Cade Burris singled, bringing Phillips home with the go-ahead run.
Lady Cats have winning week
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcat softball team picked up a pair of victories in 3A-3 Conference play last week at Stewart Park.
The Lady Cats defeated the Piggott Lady Mohawks 9-4 on March 21.
Walnut Ridge scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and six in the second to open a 7-0 lead. Piggott scored two runs in the top of the third inning to make the score 7-2, but Walnut Ridge pushed the lead to 8-2 with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Baseball Greyhounds beat Hillcrest
The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds defeated the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles 15-4 in high school baseball action on March 20.
Sloan-Hendrix got on the scoreboard first, with three runs in both the second and third innings to take a 6-0 lead. Hillcrest added a run in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-1.
The Greyhounds stretched the lead to 8-1 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Hillcrest responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the Hounds lead to 8-4.

The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles swept a doubleheader from the Izard County Consolidated Cougars on March 21 at Brockwell. Hillcrest won the first game 13-2 and took the second contest 16-4.
In game one, Tyson Durham led Hillcrest at the plate by going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and scoring three runs. Drake Brannon went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. C.J. Jeffery had a hit, two RBIs and scored a run, and Trevor Nunnally also drove in two runs.
