Lady Cats compete in tourney
The Walnut Ridge softball team competed in the Pioneer Tournament at Batesville last weekend. The Lady Bobcats defeated Yellville-Summit 14-4 on Saturday, before falling to Palestine-Wheatley 4-1 later in the day.
Against Yellville-Summit, Walnut Ridge took a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning and another run in the second. The Lady Panthers clawed their way back into the contest, scoring once in the bottom of the second inning and tying the game 3-3 with two runs in the third.
Walnut Ridge took a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning and then exploded for nine runs in the sixth to stretch the advantage to 14-3. Yellville-Summit managed only one run in the bottom of the sixth and the game ended due to the run rule.
The Lady Cats again took an early lead with a run in the top of the first in their next game against Palestine-Wheatley, but the Patriots answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Palestine-Wheatley added single runs in the second and third innings to move out to a 4-1 lead. Patriot pitching held Walnut Ridge scoreless the remainder of the game to earn the victory.
Walnut Ridge lost to the Pocahontas Lady Redskins 3-1 on March 15 in Pocahontas.
Kaylee Blazer went 2-for-3 for the Lady Bobcats.
