Lady Mustangs are

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs brought home the school's first-ever basketball state championship by defeating the Valley Springs Lady Tigers in the finals of the Girls 3A State Tournament on Friday at Hot Springs.
Hoxie trailed 31-27 after three quarters on Friday, but nearly doubled their point production in the final period, outscoring the Lady Tigers 24-9 to take the win.
The Lady Mustangs led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter and 18-16 at halftime before Valley Springs' offense came to life in the third quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored Hoxie 15-9 in the period to take a 31-27 lead after three quarters.
Lady Cats have winning week
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats enjoyed a successful week on the softball diamond, earning wins over Marked Tree, Corning, Highland and Hillcrest. Pitcher Baylee Haskins earned the victory in each contest, tossing four complete games.
Walnut Ridge traveled to Marked Tree on Friday and blasted the Lady Indians 15-3.
Offensively, for the Lady Cats, Baylee Davis went 4-for-5, with two doubles and six RBIs. Katie Kersey also went 4-for-5 and had a double and an RBI. Haskins recorded five strikeouts for Walnut Ridge, who improved to 4-1 on the season.
Mustangs earn win at Highland
The Hoxie Mustangs defeated the Highland Rebels 9-7 in high school baseball action on Thursday at Highland.
Hoxie took an 8-7 lead on an RBI hit by Carson Spargo in the top of the seventh inning. The Mustangs added an insurance run later in the inning.
Augustus Wicker earned the win in relief of starter A.J. Champion. Wicker allowed two hits and one unearned run in two innings of work.
Baseball Cats beat Highland, Tuckerman, fall to Corning
The Walnut Ridge baseball team began last week with victories over Tuckerman and Highland. Will Weir had eight hits and seven RBIs in the two wins. The Bobcats closed the week with a shutout loss to Corning.
The Corning Bobcats shut out Walnut Ridge 10-0 in high school baseball action Thursday at Stewart Park.
Corning's Mason Silberstein went 5-for-5 at the plate, and also earned the victory on the mound for the visiting Bobcats.
