Rose ceremony send-off
held for Lady Mustangs

Congratulations to the Hoxie Lady Mustangs on winning the championship of the 3A Region 3 Basketball Tournament at Lake City on Saturday night.

The Lady Mustangs also won their first round 3A girls' game at state by defeating Harding Academy 50-40 on Tuesday afternoon at Bald Knob.

Earlier on Tuesday, HHS graduate Raven Gates made the day even more special for members of the team. Raven is currently featured on ABC TV's "The Bachelor." She met with the team and gave each of them a good-luck rose for their first-round game at state.

Pictures of the Past

Elmer Milligan (left), owner of Milligan's Garage in Portia, is shown purchasing parts from Leon Stewart (center) and Dickey Hart (right) at Baymiller NAPA Auto Parts store in Walnut Ridge around 1960. Gene and Erma Baymiller started an auto parts store in the Southeast corner of the Lawrence Hotel in 1939. By the 1950s, they had built a new building for their business on Highway 67 North. A long-time employee, Woodrow Goff, and his wife, Lois, bought part interest in the business in the 1950s and became full owners in 1986. The Goffs' daughter, Reta Covey, purchased the store in 1995, and Reta sold the business to David and Christina Mosley in 2012.
