In the news ...
Logan Tribble, a senior at Westside High School, has returned after performing Sunday night at Carnegie Hall in New York City. His parents, Shelby and Laura Tribble of Bono, accompanied him on the trip. Logan's dad grew up in Walnut Ridge and graduated from WRHS.
Many people had the opportunity to hear Logan sing locally in September during Beatles at the Ridge. Logan won the Nuttin' But Talent Contest singing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." After winning, he also performed on the main stage at the festival in conjunction with The Liverpool Legends concert.
Pictures of the Past
This rare 1910 photograph shows the majestic Powhatan Courthouse at the top of a rocky hill above the flood plain of Black River. Just 22 years old at the time, it was built in 1888 on the same foundation as an earlier courthouse that was built in 1873 and burned in 1885. Equipped with a fireproof vault, records dating back to 1813 were saved from the fire and are now housed at the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives (NEARA) at Powhatan. This courthouse is now the centerpiece of the Powhatan Historic State Park. (Pictures of the Past is a cooperative effort of The Times Dispatch and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Readers are encouraged to submit historic photos.)
