Lisha Marie Black

Lisha Marie Dobbs Black, 55, of Hoxie, died Jan. 17, 2017.

Born Jan. 24, 1961, in Sterling, Ill., she worked as a nursing assistant and a grocery clerk. She was a member of New Life Full Gospel Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby Darrell and Anna Marie Moore Dobbs; a brother, Mark Dobbs; and a sister, Carol Dobbs.

Survivors include two daughters, Bobbi Bowling (Dale), Benton, and Megan Black (Josh Caldwell), Walnut Ridge; a brother, David Dobbs, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Lisa Dobbs, Walnut Ridge; and three grandchildren, Markus Evan Black, Angela Marie Bowling and Levi Edward Bowling.

A celebration of her life was held Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with pastor Chad Burton officiating.

Katherine Diane Gray

Katherine Diane Gray, 65, of Pocahontas, died Jan. 17, 2017, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born May 18, 1951, at Strawberry, she was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Gray Sr., whom she married Oct. 4, 1968, in Missouri; a son, Joseph Gray; her parents, Jim Barb and Rosie Lindley; a brother, Don Lindley; and a sister, Nadine Moore.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Gray, Pocahontas, and Calvin Gray Jr., Jonesboro; a daughter, Angela Schneider and husband Mark, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Steve Lindley, Lake City, and Jerry Lindley and wife Barbara, Keiser; four sisters, Lillian Midgett, Walnut Ridge, Barbara Midgett, Williford; Doris Whitaker and husband Bub, Alicia, and Joyce Lindley, Gainesville; 11 grandchildren, Mark Gray, Kimberly Gray, Tyler Gray, Chasity Vankirk, Blake Vankirk, Kristen Gray, Emily Gray, Phoebe Gray, Cassidy Jones, Cody Gray and Jacob Gray; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge. Cox Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Brenda McAlpin

Brenda Michelle Roach McAlpin, 51, of Walnut Ridge, died Jan. 23, 2017.

Born Sept. 28, 1965, in Mariposa, Calif., she grew up in Mariposa before moving to Lawrence County. She attended the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Hoxie.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Elizabeth Krone Roach; and a grandson, Joseph.

Survivors include a son, Casey Roach; a daughter, Ashley Roach; her father, Arthur LeRoy Roach; and two brothers, Gary Roach and wife Becky, Paragould, and Kenneth Roach and wife Cindy, Walnut Ridge.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon at House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Visitation is Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Joyce Lee Shaw

Joyce Lee Shaw, 83, of Wynnewood, Okla., died Jan. 15, 2017, in Oklahoma City.

Born July 28, 1933, in Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Wickliff and Lela Lawhon Wilson.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Kenneth Parker, whom she married in 1956, and John Paul Shaw, whom she married June 9, 1973, in Walnut Ridge; a brother, James Sylvester Wilson; and a sister, Della May Ward.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Parker, Ponca City, Okla., and John W. Shaw II, Wynnewood, Okla.; five daughters, Lenora Walker and Serita Green, both of Booneville; Thomasa McFalls, Bryan, Texas, Louise Johnson, Elmore City, Okla., and Ivy Robinson, Mill Creek, Okla.; 24 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Friday at 2 p.m. at Barstow Cemetery in Barstow, Texas, under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home of Elmore City, Okla.

Susan Shields

Susan Dinah Shields, 63, of Hoxie, died Jan. 22, 2017, at her home.

Born Oct. 26, 1953, in Antioch, Calif., she was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Hoxie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Elizabeth Zimmerman Simmons; and three sisters, Paulette Simmons, Maggie Simmons and Hester Simmons.

Survivors include her husband, Ted Shields; two sons, Teddy Douglas Shields and wife Tracy, Batesville, and Israel D. Shields and wife Erika, Walnut Ridge; three sisters, Patricia Spurlock and husband Sam, Jonesboro, Sherry Harris and husband Joey, Alicia, and Debbie Monroe and husband Kenneth, North Carolina; and seven grandchildren, London, Madison, Zachary, Zoey, Charlie, Kyler and Lauren.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle Church in Hoxie with Bro. Rick Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Markham Cemetery under the direction of Faith Funeral Service of Manila.

Visitation is today from noon until time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Teddy Shields, Israel Shields, London Shields, Zachary Shields, John Duckworth and Paul Moore. Honorary pallbearer will be Jason Blackwell.

James Bobby Ward

James Bobby Ward of Westland, Mich., passed away on Jan. 10, 2017.

Bobby was born March 14, 1936, in Lynn. His parents, Fred O. Ward and Milla Clinton Ward, preceded him in death.

Bobby is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Ward, of the home; a son Darrell Ward, Lyman, S.C.; a brother, Jerry F. Ward and wife Martha, Little Rock; and a host of relatives and friends.

Bobby was a 1954 graduate of Lynn High School. He was an Army veteran.

Bobby was a dedicated member of the Garden City, Mich., Church of Christ, serving the congregation in various areas.
