Weekend helps renew,
transform wounded veterans

John Phillips of Walnut Ridge is passionate about the efforts of the Northeast Arkansas Wounded Warrior Group. This weekend is the annual duck hunt and banquet, which is headquartered at Black River Technical College in Pocahontas.

John said he has repeatedly seen the transformation the weekend makes in the lives many of the veterans who participate in the events. The veterans come with disabilities and combat injuries, which have left them with emotional, mental or physical impairments that require them to wear prostheses or get around with the aid of a wheelchair.

Pictures of the Past

This postcard for Cooper Pharmacy of Walnut Ridge, owned by brothers Mose and Bob Cooper, features a March 1909 calendar. The Pure Food and Drug Act, which this advertisement claims to follow, was enacted by Congress in 1906 to ban altered or mislabeled food and drug products. It led to the creation of the Food and Drug Administration. (Pictures of the Past is a cooperative effort of The Times Dispatch and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Readers are encouraged to submit historic photos.)
