Hoxie, WR teams split games

The Hoxie Mustangs and Walnut Ridge Bobcats squared off in high school basketball action on Jan. 9 and 10 at Walnut Ridge's Sharum Gymnasium.

Girls

On. Jan. 10, Hoxie's Sydney Gillham and Kaitlin Henson each posted double-doubles as the Lady Mustangs routed the host Lady Bobcats 61-19.

Hoxie raced out to a big early lead and the Lady Bobcats never recovered. Hoxie led 23-6 at the end of the first quarter, 37-13 at halftime and 53-19 after three periods.

Gillham finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Henson added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Devyn Pollard also finished in double figures with 11 points.

Megan Jared scored 13 points to lead Walnut Ridge.

The junior Lady Mustangs started the evening by defeating Walnut Ridge 41-14 to run their record to 13-2 on the season.

Greyhounds beat CRA

The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds traveled to Paragould to take on the Crowley's Ridge Academy Falcons in high school basketball action on Jan. 10.

Sloan-Hendrix won the senior boys game 75-57.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter, but the Falcons came back in the second period to take a 29-26 halftime lead. Sloan-Hendrix stormed back after the intermission to outscore CRA 49-28 in the second half to take the win.

Hillcrest splits with Rector

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs defeated Marmaduke 58-50 in the girls championship game of the Kell Classic Saturday at Swifton.

The game was tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Greyhounds took a 27-23 lead into halftime. Hoxie came back to take a 40-38 lead after three quarters. The Lady Mustangs outscored Marmaduke 18-12 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Hoxie only has six team members able to play this season, and an injury suffered by Kelsey Moody forced them to finish the game with only five healthy players.

Bobcats fall to Cave City

The Cave City Cavewomen broke open a tight game in the fourth quarter and defeated the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats 45-33 in senior girls basketball action Friday night at Walnut Ridge.

Cave City led 12-11 after the first quarter, but the Lady Bobcats fought back to lead 19-18 at the intermission. Walnut Ridge carried a 26-25 advantage into fourth quarter, but was outscored 20-7 by the Cavewomen in the final period.

Megan Jared led Walnut Ridge with 17 points.
