International buyers visit WR

It was a rare experience late Thursday afternoon when a group of 15 international buyers converged for a tour in downtown Walnut Ridge. They were from Italy, France, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, as well as Australia, Brazil and South Africa, along with a delegation from the Department of Arkansas Parks and Tourism.

They were in town as part of a three-day post familiarization music tour of Memphis, northeast Arkansas and Mississippi.

The musical-themed tour was called "Blues & Rock 'n' Roll with a Splash of Country!" The tour gives professionals in the tourism industry the opportunity to experience first-hand potential tourist destinations.

Trustee J.R. Cox of Walnut Ridge presided in his first meeting as board chair for the coming year.

LawCo. Angel Tree project underway

The Lawrence County Angel Tree project, which provides Christmas gifts for children in the county each year, is underway.

Second-grade students from Walnut Ridge and Hoxie School helped kick off the project on Nov. 30 by singing carols in the courthouse lobby, where the tree is located. Those wishing to purchase gifts may select angels from the tree through Friday. Gifts need to be returned to the County Clerk's Office by Monday.

Last year, the project provided Christmas gifts for 371 kids, and committee members expect to serve as many or more children this year.
