WBC Tournament underway
The 58th annual Williams Baptist College High School Basketball Tournament got underway Saturday at the Southerland-Mabee Center on the WBC campus.
Three games were played Saturday. The Viola girls withdrew from the tournament, allowing the Maynard Lady Tigers to advance via forfeit.
Saturday's action included:
The ninth-seeded Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles defeated the eighth-seeded Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats 51-45.
Walnut Ridge led 27-22 at halftime before being outscored 29-18 by the Lady Eagles in the second half.
Carly Otwell led Hillcrest with 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. Mickayla Smith tossed in 15 points. Paige Penn scored six points and 12 rebounds, while Samantha Tacker added four points. Brittney Sutton and Maddie Whitmire each contributed three points.
S-H splits with Rector
The Sloan-Hendrix basketball teams visited Rector on Nov. 22 and came away with four victories on the evening.
In the senior boys game, Rector stormed out to a 21-5 lead in the first quarter before the Greyhounds rallied in the second period to trail only 35-30 at the intermission. Sloan-Hendrix continued their domination in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 27-4 in the third quarter and 17-6 in the final period to close out the 74-45 win.
Colby Johnson led the Greyhounds with 26 points. Ben Meigs had 15 points, and Hunter Stallings added 13. Tyler Murphy finished with nine points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Hillcrest girls drop games
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds defeated Hillcrest's Lady Screamin' Eagles 66-36 in girls 2A-2 basketball action on Nov. 22 at Marmaduke.
Marmaduke won the junior girls game 63-33.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles fell to Rector 41-35 on Nov. 18 at Rector.
Hoxie girls lose close game
The Izard County Consolidated Lady Cougars edged Hoxie 63-60 in senior girls basketball action on Nov. 22 at Hoxie.
ICC led 33-28 at the intermission before stretching the lead to 47-35 after three quarters.
Sydney Gillham scored 22 points, and Bekah Kopp had 18 for the Lady Mustangs, who's record dropped to 1-2 on the season with the loss.
WR girls fall to Highland
The Highland Lady Rebels defeated the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats 63-45 in senior girls basketball action on Nov. 21 at Highland.
Highland led 37-24 at halftime and 52-31 after three quarters.
