S-H, Hoxie split games

Sloan-Hendrix hosted Hoxie in high school basketball action Thursday night at Imboden.

Hoxie won the senior girls game 58-20 to even their season record to 1-1. Sydney Gillham led the Lady Mustangs with 19 points, and Devyn Pollard added 16. Caylea Johnson scored seven points to lead Sloan-Hendrix.

The Lady Greyhounds record dropped to 3-6 for the season.

Hoxie won the junior girls game 44-27.

Jadeyn Brown led Hoxie with 17 points, and Peyton Evans added 12.

Sloan-Hendrix was led by Ava Murphy with 10 points.


In senior boys action, Sloan-Hendrix jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 79-36 victory over the Mustangs.

Lady Cats beat Hillcrest

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats opened the 2016-17 basketball season with a thrilling 39-38 overtime win over the Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles on Nov. 15 at Sharum Gymnasium.

The Lady Bobcats led 7-5 at the end of the first quarter and 17-7 at halftime and 25-17 after three quarters, but Hillcrest played a tough fourth quarter and scrapped their way back into contention. Mickayla Smith hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to send the game into overtime tied 32-32.

Baylee Burris led Walnut Ridge with 16 points, and Megan Jared added 11.

Screamin' Eagles beat Rector

The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles defeated the Rector Cougars 66-63 in senior boys basketball Friday night at Rector.

Hillcrest raced to an 11-2 lead in the first quarter, but the Cougars cut the gap to 26-21 at the intermission. The Screamin' Eagles pushed the lead back to double digits, 43-33, at the end of the third quarter, and held off a Rector rally in the final period.

Dyllan Nunnally led Hillcrest with 22 points, and Tyson Durham added 19.

Hounds defeat Marmaduke, Lady Hounds fall to Corning

Corning's Lady Bobcats defeated Sloan-Hendrix 64-35 in senior girls basketball Friday night at Imboden.

Corning led just 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, but stretched the lead to 33-20 at halftime and 54-32 at the end of the third quarter.

Annie Doney led the Lady Greyhounds with 12 points.
