Angel tree project slated in LawCo.
The Lawrence County Angel Tree project will once again help provide Christmas gifts for children in the county this year.
Last year, the project provided Christmas gifts for 371 kids, and committee members expect to serve as many or more children this year.
Those needing assistance can pick up applications now at the Lawrence County Housing Office, the Lawrence County Clerk's Office, the Lawrence County Circuit Clerk's Office or the Department of Human Services office. The deadline to apply is Dec. 5.
Second-grade students from Walnut Ridge and Hoxie School are scheduled to decorate the tree on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at noon. Those wishing to purchase gifts may select angels from the tree that afternoon through Dec. 9. Gifts need to be returned to the County Clerk's Office by Dec. 12.
In addition, Stowers said that if a group, church or individual would like to adopt a family, they can contact her prior to Nov. 30 to guarantee they will get all the siblings.
Anyone who would like to adopt an angel or angels but cannot get by the courthouse, can email a request to Stowers at firstname.lastname@example.org. Monetary donations are always welcome, as well.
Anyone who needs more information or would like to volunteer to help distribute angels in the courthouse lobby can contact County Clerk Tina Stowers at 870-886-1111.
