Halloween 2016 will go down in history as one of the warmest in Arkansas. With highs for the day in the 80s, no jackets or sweaters were needed, even after dark. Our report is that hundreds of people attended the Trunk-or-Treat event held on Abbey Road in downtown Walnut Ridge on Halloween night.
The event was a cooperative effort of Downtown Walnut Ridge, the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee, the city of Walnut Ridge, as well as participating groups, businesses, churches and individuals. Together, they provided some 20 booths or trunks for handing out treats, as well as games, music, bubbles and smoke.
Pictures of the Past
With American Flags displayed, three unidentified men pose by a "speeder" at the Black Rock Depot in this undated photo. The depot served the community from the early 1880s until the railroad closed it and the depot was demolished in the 1970s. This photo, along with others of the area, will be on display at the Black Rock Museum during the Foothills Celebration this weekend. (Pictures of the Past is a cooperative effort of The Times Dispatch and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Readers are encouraged to submit historic photos.)
