A look at the ballot issues

If you look at pages 2C through 10C of this week's TD, you will find public notices with the complete wording of Issues Nos. 4, 5, 6 and 7. Two weeks ago, public notices for Issues Nos. 1, 2 and 3 were published in the Oct. 5 edition.

On Thursday, the Arkansas Supreme Court removed Issue 4 and Issue 5 from the ballot. The court agreed with challengers that the two ballot titles did not fully inform voters what was being asked of them.

Issue 4 sought to give legislators the ability to pass laws related to medical-injury lawsuits, while Issue 5 asked voters to approve casinos in Boone, Miller and Washington counties. Many counties already have ballots prepared, so these issues may still appear on the ballot, but any votes cast will not be counted.

Pictures of the Past

Located on Parker Springs Road next to Crows Creek, students of the Oak Grove School posed for this early 20th century photo in their "Sunday best" clothes. A notation on the back states: "2nd row to right, 4th person, Grandma Ring." Grandma Ring was Ida Parker who married Arden Ring in 1911. According to Catherine Richey, the Oak Grove School closed in January 1947 with the students then attending Lynn Public School.
