Keira Arleen Howard

Cody and Danielle Howard of Jonesboro have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, on Sept. 24, 2016, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

The baby weighed seven pounds, 15 ounces and has been named Keira Arleen Howard.

Grandparents are Mechelle and David Davis of Walnut Ridge, Teri and Lester Gross of Wagoner, Okla., Kenny and Stacey Howard of Brookland and David and Jan Grady of Coweta, Okla.

She is the great-granddaughter of Marilyn Grady of Oweta, Okla., Tony and Linda Teel of Walnut Ridge and the late Minnie and Joe Howard, who lived in Walnut Ridge. She is the great-great granddaughter of Opal Wasson of Fort Smith.

Obituaries

Weldon Bryant

Weldon Odean Foster Bryant, 84, of Forsyth, Mo., formerly of Black Rock, died Oct. 17, 2016, at Forsyth Nursing and Rehab.

Born July 12, 1932, in Light, she was the daughter of Floyd and Ellen Price Foster. She was a homemaker and was retired from Skil Manufacturing in Walnut Ridge. She was a member of Pruitt Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coach Herschel Bryant, whom she married Oct. 25, 1951; four brothers, Virgle, Paul, Lloyd and Alvin Foster; and two sisters, Velma Bowlin and Diann Wall.

Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Raney and husband Michael, Branson, Mo., and LaDonna Bryant, Black Rock; a grandson, Ryan Raney; three sisters-in-law, Edy Foster, Freeda Foster and Betty Sue Foster; a brother-in-law, Russell Wall; and two special friends and faithful caregivers, Patrice Byrd Junkersfeld and Wilene Green Byrd.

Funeral is Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pruitt Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Light with pastor Aaron Winfrey and Chuck Partlow officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Walcott under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Family and close friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation is Saturday from 9-10 a.m.

Reta Jane Goff Covey

Reta Jane Goff Covey, 75, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 17, 2016, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born May 17, 1941, in Portia, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Lois Winters Goff. She was a former schoolteacher in the Egypt and Walnut Ridge school districts. Later in life, she was the owner and operator of Baymiller’s NAPA store in Walnut Ridge. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

Survivors include a son, Michael Covey and wife Nicole, Brookland; two grandsons, Kinman Covey and wife Kelly, and Mason Covey; a great-grandson, Ryker Covey; and several cousins, relatives and friends.

Funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bros. Bruce Primm and Jake Guenrich officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Visitation is Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Wings of Honor Museum or the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Verlon Katharine Daggett

Verlon Katharine Daggett, 85, of Moline, Ill., died Sept. 4, 2016, in Illinois.

Born March 11, 1931, in Saffell, she was the daughter of Raymond and Alma Godwin Daggett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leoman Daggett.

Survivors include two sons, Randall Daggett, East Moline, Ill., and Russell Daggett (Marty), Forrest City, Iowa; a sister, Geraldine Parsons; two brothers, Delbert Melton (Modine) and Elbert Melton (Lauraetta); and two grandchildren, Sarah Neuhring and Emily Daggett.

Funeral was Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Lynn with Everett Hart officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery near Cord.

Jerry Ford

Jerry Lee Ford, 74, of Pocahontas, died Oct. 15, 2016.

Born Nov. 1, 1941, he graduated from Delaplaine High School and attended Arkansas State University. He was a retired farmer and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janice Austin Ford; a son, Kyle Ford; a daughter, Denee Johnson and husband James; a brother, Sonny Ford; a sister, Lisa Pace and husband Steve; eight grandchildren, Dylan Ford, Jace Ford, Ashlyn Ellis, Brynlee Ellis, Megan Johnson, Katie Johnson, Jared Johnson and Jake Johnson; and a great-grandchild.

A celebration of his life was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Nelson Henderson officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Dylan Ford, Jace Ford, Barry Ford, Jared Johnson, Riley Pace, Rob Roberts, Bob French and Dennis French. Honorary pallbearers were Doug Moore, Bob Gates, Eggie Tedder, Glenn Murphy, Shorty Fort, James Edward Ivy, Dallas Roberts and Greg Lance.

Ernestine French

Ernestine French, 89, of Southaven, Miss., died Oct.12, 2016.

Born May 19, 1927, in Nolan, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary Edna Tarlton White. She lived most of her life in Lawrence County and was of the Church of Christ belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William French, whom she married May 25, 1946; and two brothers, Zanuel White and Ray White.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon House and husband Conrad, Hernando, Miss.; three sisters, Katie Reyes and Betty Cass, both of Illinois, and Mary Watson, Harrison; two brothers, Bobby White, Harrison, and Preston White, Illinois; two granddaughters, Sarah Martin and Heather House; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Monday at Sutton Cemetery in Pocahontas with Rob Combs officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Thomas Joseph Helms Sr.

Thomas Joseph “Tom” Helms Sr., 76, of Starkville, Miss., died Oct. 3, 2016.

Born Dec. 20, 1939, in St. Louis, he was the son of Warren Joseph and Frances Viola Hubbard Martin Helms.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Allen Helms and Thomas Joseph Helms Jr.; and four siblings, George Warren Helms, Bonnie Corinne Helms Baughman, Wanda Gay Helms and James Hoyt Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Ellen Benedict Helms; two daughters, Jean Elizabeth Helms (Gail Raddatz), Lincoln, Neb., and Kathryn Reno Helms, Baltimore, Md.; a son, John Thomas Helms (Lynette), Roswell, Ga.; and a sister, Lynda Ruth Helms Long, Cherokee Village.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Smithville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Old Bethel Cemetery.

John Richey

John David Richey, 55, of Paragould, died Oct. 16, 2016, at his residence.

Born Dec. 26, 1960, in Walnut Ridge, he was a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Slusser.

Survivors include three sons, Shaun Richey and wife Patricia, Tennessee, Jacob Richey, Paragould, and John Richey and wife Kristina, Louisiana; a daughter, Tasha Foster, Paragould; his parents, Virgil Richey and Liz Holman, Pocahontas; four sisters, Pauletta Ross, Pocahontas, Ann Powell, Benton, Carrie Richey, South Carolina, and Rachel Richardson, Walnut Ridge; and five grandchildren, Michael Williams, Galaxy Richey, Skyler Richey, Xander Richey and Corbin Richey.

Private services are under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Helen Louise Wright, 78, of Florissant, Mo., died Oct. 10, 2016, in Bridgeton, Mo.

Born Feb. 13, 1938, in Lynn, she was the daughter of Claud and Helen Gardner Clinton.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gardner Clinton.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Wright; a daughter, Denise Davis; two sons, Rickey Davis and wife Tricia, and David Davis and wife Melissa; two brothers, Pat Clinton and wife Carolyn, and Wayne Clinton and wife Barbara; six grandchildren, Meagan Davis, Zak Davis, Nicholas Davis, Lacey Graves, Ruby Davis and John Davis; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Lynn with Carl Cate officiating. Burial was in Dry Creek Cemetery.
