WR has third AMV
Hall of Fame inductee

For the third year in a row, someone from Walnut Ridge will be inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame. Major General Bobby Brummit Porter (deceased), a Walnut Ridge native, will be inducted during a ceremony at the Embassy Suites in Little Rock on Nov. 5.

Gen. James Terry Conway, who is originally from Walnut Ridge, was inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans' Hall of Fame (AMVHOF) in 2015. Walnut Ridge native Tom Thomas of Searcy, a U.S. Army colonel, was selected for induction into the elite group in 2014.

Pictures of the Past

Opened in the late 1940s by Wilsey and Hazel Lane Brewer, the Court Square Motel and Cafe were directly across SW Fourth Street from the Lawrence County Courthouse. After Higginbotham Funeral Service purchased the W.R. Lane house a few years later, the cafe, on right, was incorporated into the funeral home complex and still stands. The motel buildings, on the left and back, were demolished as part of the funeral service parking lot.
