Outstanding rushing not enough

Chandler Spradlin and Diamani Davis combined for over 300 yards rushing for the Hoxie Mustangs, but it wasn't enough to offset a five-touchdown performance by Rivercrest's Kentavious Robinson, as the Colts downed the Mustangs 54-27 in 3A-3 football action Friday night at Crider Field.
The Colts scored on Robinson's 16-yard run, followed by the PAT, with 7:58 to play in the first quarter to grab an early 7-0 lead.
Hoxie answered on quarterback Chandler Spradlin's 10-yard keeper at the 2:28 mark of the period. Ty Woodard's extra point tied the game at 7-7.
Rivercrest regained the lead on Jamyka Frank's 27-yard run late in the opening quarter, and extended their lead to 21-7 on Robinson's five-yard run early in the second quarter.
Lady Cats record victories
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats volleyball team enjoyed the first week of October, winning matches against Highland, Izard County and Crowley's Ridge Academy.
The Lady Cats traveled to Highland on Thursday and swept the Lady Rebels 25-19, 26-24, 25-16.
For Walnut Ridge, Baylee Burris was 14/16 serving, with four aces, nine kills, four digs and three assists. Emma Rice was 10/12 serving, with two aces, nine kills and three digs. Madi Mullen was 13/14 serving, with two aces, a kill, five digs and two assists.
Lady Mustangs enjoy winning week
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs were undefeated in senior high volleyball action last week, winning matches against Izard County, Cave City and Cedar Ridge.
Hoxie hosted ICC on Thursday and swept the Lady Cougars 25-6, 25-5, 25-8.
For the Lady Mustangs, Katelyn Jamison had two digs and was 6/6 serving, with four aces. Kayla Roberts had a dig, six kills and was 11/12 serving, with four aces. Sydney Gillham had three digs, seven kills, a block and five aces. Kenzie Orrick had five assists, a dig, two kills, a block and was 7/7 serving, with an ace. Ellie Britt had a dig, a kill, a block and was 11/11 serving, with four aces. Emily Davis had 13 assists, four kills and was 24/24 from the service line, with 10 aces.
Cats drop game to Osceola
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats led early against Osceola, but the Seminoles fought back to earn a 21-6 victory in 3A-3 football action Friday night at Osceola. The loss left the Bobcats with a 1-2 conference record and 4-2 overall.
Luke Harper gave Walnut Ridge a 6-0 lead with his 17th rushing touchdown of the season in the first quarter. The Seminoles answered with a pair of touchdowns in the second period and led 14-6 at the intermission.
Osceola scored another touchdown and PAT in the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-6. The Seminoles defense proved tough to crack, keeping the Bobcats off the scoreboard for the final three quarters.
