Jasper Tate Johnson

Eric and Amber Johnson of Saffell have announced the birth of a son on Oct. 4, 2016, at St. Bernards Healthcare in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds and has been named Jasper Tate Johnson. He has an older brother, Jaxon, who is three.

Grandparents are Brent and Melinda Glenn of Lynn, Danny and Maronda Davis and Todd and Marnie Johnson, all of Saffell.

He is the great-grandson of Sherry Glenn of Lynn, Wayne and Lana Johnson and JR and Eula Mae Huskey, all of Saffell, and Candis Faulkner and Mike Western, both of Batesville.

Melvin Leonas Mondy

Jason and Stephanie Mondy of Hoxie have announced the birth of a son, born Aug. 9, 2016, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed nine pounds, seven ounces, and has been given the name Melvin Leonas Mondy. He has three older brothers, Jacob, 16, Jordan, 13, Kyler, 11.

Grandparents are Mary Beasley of Walnut Ridge, Billy Beasley of Imboden and Jim and Janie Mondy of Pocahontas.

Great-grandmother is Carolyn Webster of Black Rock.

Clydola Barker

Clydola Barker, 85, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 6, 2016, in Bartlett, Tenn.

Born Dec. 19, 1930, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of Clyde and Dora Mae Scoggins Rockwood. She lived most of her life in Walnut Ridge and was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Barker, whom she married April 20, 1947; a son, Thomas Barker; a son-in-law, Paul Hines; and a brother-in-law, Felix Tackett.

Survivors include two daughters, Marie Hines, Bartlett, Tenn., and Linda Van Sickle and husband Dana, Santee, Calif.; a sister, Geneva Tackett, Frenchburg, Ky.; two grandchildren, Robin Kuhtz and Candi Stephens; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral was Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Don House officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Ada Rasdon Barnhill

Ada Rasdon Barnhill, 89, of Corpus Christi, Texas, died Oct. 4, 2016, in Corpus Christi.

Born July 17, 1927, in Mena, she was the daughter of Asro and Myrtle Rasdon. She was raised in Hoxie, where her father served as town marshal for some years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Barnhill Jr.; and a daughter, Eva Jo Sapp.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Barnhill; a son, John Barnhill and wife Valerie; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

A graveside service was held Thursday at Memorial Gardens in Corpus Christi.

Kenneth Dale Barton

Kenneth Dale Barton, 86, of Powhatan, passed away Oct. 9, 2016, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born March 18, 1930, in Black Rock, he was the son of Albert and Ella Davidson Barton. He was a welder and a member of the New Life Gospel Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William Lawrence "Buck" Barton.

Survivors include his wife, Allie Jane Pickney Barton, whom he married July 18, 1953; two sons, Gene Barton, Phoenix, and Wayne Barton and wife Tracey, Redwood City, Calif.; two daughters, Lin Eagan, Jonesboro, and Marie Woods and husband Steve, Powhatan; six grandchildren, Jerry Gilliam and wife Deborah, Kenneth Gilliam and wife Pim, Shawn Barton and wife Regina, Natosha Ward and husband Jason, Brandon Woods and Travis Barton; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside service was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Oak Forest Cemetery in Black Rock with Bro. Wayne Bryant officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Legacy Hospice or to The Children's Shelter in Walnut Ridge.

Don DePriest

Don DePriest, 85, of Walnut Ridge, passed away Oct. 7, 2016, at St. Bernard's in Jonesboro.

He was born April 17, 1931, to Eli Jackson and Hazel Elizabeth Kell DePriest in Black Rock. He married Carolyn Flippo on November 12, 1952, in Paragould. He was a school administrator, teacher, coach and principal at Black Rock, as well as Birch Tree, Van Buren and Ellsinore in Missouri. He was also a high school basketball official for over 25 years in Arkansas and Missouri.

Don was Boy Scout Master of Troop 56 in Black Rock, and past president of the Black Rock Lion's Club. He was an army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was saved at the Assembly of God Church in Black Rock at the age of 13, and was presently a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Portia.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Marion Dawson; and a son-in-law, Russell Jessen.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of the home; daughters, Debbie Jessen of Bono, and Marsha Blanchard of Kennett, Mo.; five grandchildren, Beth Hook, Jana Crowell, Jason Lunn, Cara Shirai and Amy Shell; nine great-grandchildren, Jalynn, Aiden and Kenna Claire Hook, Brayden and Karlie Crowell, Addison, Kennedy, and Ella Shell, Maxwell Shirai, Jalynn Hood, and Madilyn Droddy.

Funeral was Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Gaylon Russell and Mike Frost officiating. Burial was in Oak Forest Cemetery in Black Rock.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were nephews and grandsons. Serving as honorary pallbearers was the men's Sunday School Class at Crossroads Baptist Church, Franklin Smith, Norman Kyger and Conway Weir.

Shirley Isaac Haigwood

Shirley Isaac Haigwood, 82, of Newport, died Oct. 6, 2016, at his home.

Born March 18, 1934, in Charlotte, he was the son of Vernon and Artie Freeman Haigwood, who were former residents of Lawrence County. He was a lifelong farmer and was a member of the Surrounded Hills Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Adrin Haigwood.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Aleta Sullivan Haigwood, whom he married May 1, 1954; three sons, Dennis Haigwood and wife Denise, Malcolm Haigwood and wife Lisa, and Stanley Haigwood and wife Tanya, all of Newport; a brother, Glover Haigwood; six grandchildren, Isaac, Derek, Drew, Seth, Brandi and Erin; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 10 a.m. at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Isaac Haigwood, Derek Haigwood, Drew Haigwood, Seth Haigwood, Jonathan Bailey and Lance Ritter. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Surrounded Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Chuck Haigwood, Timothy Haigwood, Keith Scoggins, Kenneth Grady, Don Robinson and Dr. Guilford Dudley.

Carolyn Hulett

Sue Carolyn Ross Hulett, 79, of Imboden, died Oct. 7, 2016, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Aug. 20, 1937, in Caruth, Mo., she was the daughter of Raymond Harrison and Viola Elizabeth Thompson Ross. She was a member of the Imboden Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gaylen Ray Ross, who died as an infant, and Joe Ross.

Survivors include her husband, Jarold Dane Hulett, whom she married Oct. 15, 1956, in Kennett, Mo.; four daughters, Vickie Holland and husband Lonnie, Paragould, Robyne Collins and husband Stewart and Terri Aaron and husband Michael, all of Doniphan, Mo., and Dana Wells and husband Anthony, Ravenden Springs; three brothers, Charles "Bud" Ross, Ronald Ross and Terry Ross; a sister, Linda Pritchett; 16 grandchildren, Cameron Holland, Shonna Cates, Bethany Hopkins, Cody Holland, Stephanie Moreland, Derik Collins, Zackery Collins, Tyler Collins, Danielle Collins, Shane Wells, Seth Wells, Stetson Wells, Kali Aaron, Hunter Aaron, Chailland Aaron, Savanah Aaron; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Julia L. Mans

Julia Leona "Judy" Medlock Mans, 88, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 6, 2016, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born Feb. 28, 1928, in Danville, N.C., she was the daughter of Everett and Bertha Graddy Medlock. She was a lifelong resident of Walnut Ridge, a homemaker and a member of Hoxie Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, J.W. Mans; and two brothers, E.A. Medlock and Graddy Medlock.

Survivors include a son, Danny Mans and wife Brenda, Smithville; a daughter, Brenda Mans Butterworth and husband Larry, Bono; three grandchildren, Jason Mans, Travis Mans and Lance Clark; and eight great-grandchildren.

Private graveside service was Saturday with Don House officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Judy Randall

Sandra Julia "Judy" Randall, 71, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 9, 2016, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Oct. 26, 1944, in Walnut Ridge, she was a homemaker and a member of White Oak Baptist Church. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Lawrence County Courthouse for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Tom Randall, in 2008, whom she married Aug. 29, 1980; her parents, Henry and Genevieve Thennes Baltz; a brother, Al Baltz; and a grandson, Brandon Ebbs.

Survivors include three daughters, Lori Mosley and husband Lonnie, Eustace, Texas, Stacy Fisher and husband Joe, and Amy Randall, all of Walnut Ridge; two sisters, Henrietta Sigmund and Ruth McKillip, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; four brothers, Larry Baltz, Benton, Ralph Baltz and David Baltz, both of Walnut Ridge, and Mitch Baltz, Powhatan; and seven grandchildren, Sean Ebbs, Maxx Cox, Peyton Roberts, Ethan Roberts, Claire Fisher, Kai Fisher and Mallory Moore.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at White Oak Baptist Church with Bro. Robert Foster officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sean Ebbs, Ethan Roberts and Kai Fisher.

Cleades A. Smith

Cleades A. "Shorty" Smith, 85, of Mountain View, formerly of Powhatan, died Oct. 9, 2016, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born April 25, 1931, in Powhatan, he was the son of Evan and Laura Smith. He served in the U.S. Army as a medical corpsman and was a riverboat captain. He was a member of Eastside Church of Christ in Mountain View.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dempsey "Red" Smith, Tommy Gene Smith and Frank Smith; and a sister, Joan Drury.

Survivors include three sons, Cleatus Smith and wife Mary Ann, Eric Smith and wife Linda, and Tony Smith and wife Janette, all of Powhatan; a daughter, Vickie Adams and husband Randy, Harrah, Okla.; a brother, Jerry Smith and wife Jean, Piedmont, S.C.; five sisters, Pat Smith, Jeraldine Davis and Lois Colbert, all of Imboden, Mary Maxwell and husband Bill, Black Rock, and Bonnie Richey and husband Junior, Powhatan; five grandchildren, Jonathan Smith and wife Shannon, Zachary Smith, Anthony Adams and wife Tara, Alisha Cheatham and husband Dustin and Michael Smith; and seven great-grandchildren, Dalton, Colton and Dristin Smith; Justyn, Abigail and Kenzy Adams; and Hayden Cheatham.

Funeral is Thursday at 1 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Cindy Bragg officiating. Burial will be in Powhatan Cemetery.

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
