WR Airport making
progress on cleanups
Walnut Ridge Regional Airport Commission Chair Don Cavenaugh reported on the progress of various clean-up projects at the airport during the Sept. 19 meeting.
While good progress has been made on brush and limb cleanup, work on certain buildings is delayed while the buildings are on short-term leases and costs can be assessed.
One of the buildings being considered for revitalization is the Old Morgan Building #3. The building, if repaired, could be used for storage or to rent out. Cavenaugh has been working with Clark General Contractors to get quotes. Estimated cost is at $10,000-15,000.
Also at the meeting, Commissioner Scott Brady inquired about the touch-and-go aircraft, stating he's heard concerns about the noise and its effects on the community and nearby duck hunting.
An agreement is in place allowing the U.S. Air Force to utilize the airport's runways for training exercises. Cavenaugh said he believes that the airport is approaching the end of this contract. Still, there are concerns about the increase in airport traffic, which has hindered some regular fly-ins, damages caused to the runway from the touch-and-go aircraft and the nuisance on the community.
Airport Manager Maggie Glisson was instructed to send a letter addressing these concerns.
