Thanks to the participants and sponsors of the Cavenaugh Thumperthon 5K, the NEA Humane Society in Jonesboro and Jumpstart Animal Shelter in Walnut Ridge will split approximately $9,000 in proceeds.

The sixth annual Cavenaugh Thumperthon 5K was held Saturday morning at Stewart Park in Walnut Ridge. Despite a slight chance of showers, warm temperatures and sunny skies greeted dogs and their owners.

Wading pools provided both drinking water and relief from the heat for dogs participating in the 5K as well as those brought by the Humane Society and Jumpstart shelter for adoption.

Organizer Fran Cavenaugh said, "I want to thank everybody for coming out and supporting Thumperthon again. I hope they'll come out next year and help make it bigger and better."

The race was established to honor Fran's husband, Don Cavenaugh, on his 60th birthday. Cavenaugh is an avid runner and animal lover, and Thumper was his canine running partner. A kids fun run was held following the 5K.
