$3.8 million approved to
rehab Larkspur Gardens

The Arkansas Development Finance Authority in Little Rock has informed Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp of its approval of a pending $3.8 million housing renovation project for Walnut Ridge.

The Arkansas Development Finance Authority has announced that the City Housing Authority of Walnut Ridge has been approved for funding of the substantial rehabilitation of its Larkspur Gardens Apartments.

Larkspur Gardens is an assisted senior living complex, located at 109 South Larkspur Lane in Walnut Ridge, and has served residents of the city for over 25 years.

Farmers share stories following floods in LawCo.

It was a packed house on Aug. 31 when Lawrence County farmers, especially those who farm along the rivers in the county, gathered to share information about the losses they have suffered during the 2016 season.

Jerry Morgan of Lynn facilitated the meeting, which was held at the Lynn Community Center.

Among those in attendance were Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward, Nathan Davis and Ron Chastain from Sen. John Boozman's office, Mitchell Nail from Cong. Rick Crawford's office and Jeff Morris from Sen. Tom Cotton's office. They briefly addressed the group after hearing damage reports.

Secretary of Agriculture speaks to Chamber

Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward shared good news and bad news regarding the state of the agriculture industry in Arkansas with attendees at the Aug. 31 Chamber of Commerce Quarterly meeting in Walnut Ridge.

He discussed that while in the area he was also meeting with farmers who were facing losses from flooding.

"We are trying to figure out how bad the damage is," he said. "We are cognizant of the fact that a lot of people were hit hard."

Suit filed against WR

The city of Walnut Ridge and members of the Walnut Ridge City Council received notice of a lawsuit filed against them regarding condemnation efforts for property located on Highway 67 North.

Wanda Thornton and Louise Sifford, property owners, have issued the lawsuit, which details issues they found with the ordinance used in the condemnation process.

A major complaint with the condemnation was how it was served, stating that not all property owners were properly notified by the city. However, several other complaints regarding the way the ordinance is prepared were also listed.
