Judge suffers serious
injuries in accident
County Judge Dale Freeman is recovering from serious injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Aug. 10.
According to the Arkansas State Police, Freeman was traveling on Highway 67, near Cabot, early Wednesday morning when the Toyota pickup he was driving left the roadway and overturned.
According to reports, the 911 call was received at 5:15 a.m., and responders found Freeman trapped inside the truck. He was freed from the vehicle and airlifted from the scene.
Freeman remains a patient in the intensive care unit at Baptist Health in Little Rock, where he has undergone two surgeries for injuries he sustained in the accident. He is expected to be moved to a private room later this week.
Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp posted on the City of Walnut Ridge Facebook page that after communication with the family he believes Freeman will be able to resume his duties as county judge.
"It's my understanding that a full recovery is expected and although the judge will likely be in a brace or using neck support, he is expected to walk out of the hospital in the next couple of weeks," Snapp posted. "Until Judge Freeman is released from the hospital, the League of Counties has assured the family the League is there to provide any assistance Lawrence County needs."
The staff in the County Judge's Office is continuing to take care of the daily operation of the county, according to Gerry Rider, administrative assistant to the judge.
"County business is continuing as normal," she said.
