Hwy. 67 to open Thursday

Gretchen Hunt

After years of construction, Highway 67 has made its way to Lawrence County.

On Thursday, the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will officially dedicate the section of Highway 67 from Highway 226 north, near Swifton, to the Walnut Ridge/Hoxie Highway 63 Bypass.

Following a 10 a.m. ceremony, the new highway will open to the public. With the opening of this section, individuals will be able to drive directly from the Highway 63 Bypass to Little Rock.

The AHTD will also dedicate the completion of the Highway 226 connector between Highway 67 and Highway 49 near Jonesboro on Thursday afternoon.

U.S. Congressman Rick Crawford, Arkansas Highway Commissioners and AHTD staff will attend both dedication events. Elected officials and Lawrence County Chamber representatives will also be on hand for the Highway 67 dedication.
