Municipal filing period
begins Friday

The filing period for the municipal election of alderman positions will begin Friday at noon and continue until Aug. 19 at noon. Petitions can be picked up at County Clerk Tina Stowers' office.

Candidates must file a petition to be on the ballot. Signatures must be from registered voters in the candidate's municipality. If the city is divided into wards, the signatures must come from registered voters within the candidate's ward.

In incorporated towns, 10 signatures are required, and in first- and second-class cities candidates must gather 30 signatures.

Municipal elections are non-partisan, and any races that develop will be on the Nov. 8 General Election ballot.
