private club license
A new restaurant that is set to open in downtown Walnut Ridge was granted a private club license by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board at its July 20 meeting.
Juan C. Aguilar requested the license earlier this year for Main Street Pizza, which he plans to open at 207 West Main Street.
The report states that several local pastors submitted letters of opposition. There were no objections from public officials, and Mayor Charles Snapp submitted a letter of support.
"I'm pleased with the news about Main Street Pizza receiving their permit," Snapp said. "Area residents will now have an additional opportunity to spend their money in Walnut Ridge, which generates local jobs and increases the sales tax base."
Aguilar's permit is conditional on the completion of the restaurant and a re-inspection by ABC enforcement. The decision specifically states that he must complete remodeling, install kitchen facilities, receive health department approval, add lighted fire exit signs and install a landline telephone.

According to Snapp, Walnut Ridge is having a record number of requests for building permits.
A post on the City of Walnut Ridge Facebook page states, "Currently we have four commercial permits issued and 14 residential permits that are at different levels of completion. According to the information furnished at the time permits were purchased, the value of the new construction is estimated to be $3,783,539 with more commercial permits expected to be issued in the next few months."
Snapp said even with all the new construction, additional housing is still needed in the community.
"I'm excited to see commercial and residential growth in the area, but the shortage of housing is still holding us back," he said. "We have jobs available in the immediate area and more coming, thus our need for additional housing continues to escalate."
