Three school board
races to be on ballot
The Sept. 20 School Election will include three races, according to information released by County Clerk Tina Stowers on Tuesday.
The filing period ended Tuesday at noon with races in the Hoxie School District, Lawrence County School District and Sloan-Hendrix School District.
In Hoxie, incumbent Jeff Worlow will face Dennis Coggins and Sherry Moore.
Voters in the Lawrence County School District will decide between incumbent John Householder and Brittany Schmidt.
The Sloan-Hendrix ballot will have a race between incumbent Aaron Murphy and John "Greg" Starnes. In addition, Ricky Benson has filed to complete an unexpired term for the seat that he has held as an appointee since Chris Jones resigned in 2015. There are three years remaining on that term.
Phillip L. Penn is the only candidate for the Hillcrest School Board position. Incumbent Roger Helms chose not to seek re-election.
Drawing for ballot positions will be held by the Lawrence County Election Commissioners today at 1 p.m. It will be in the County Clerk's Office in the Lawrence County Courthouse. The public and candidates are welcome to attend.
