School board filing begins
The Lawrence County Clerk's Office began accepting petitions for those wishing to run for a position on a county school board on Tuesday.
In order to petition, the candidate must reside and be a registered voter in the school district. Petitions can be filed through this coming Tuesday at noon.
Any potential candidate must have 20 valid signatures of registered voters in the school district for which they are running.
Petitions may be picked up in the County Clerk's Office, located in the Lawrence County Courthouse in Walnut Ridge.
Those who had filed as of Tuesday afternoon were:
Hillcrest School District (zone 7): Phillip L. Penn.
Hoxie School District: Dennis Coggins, Sherry Moore.
Lawrence County School District: Brittany Schmidt, John K. Householder.
Drawing for ballot positions for the Sept. 20 School Election will be held by the Lawrence County Election Commissioners on Wednesday, July 13, at 1 p.m. It will be in the County Clerk's Office in the Lawrence County Courthouse. The public and candidates are welcome to attend.
